soak it in alcohol then lightly brush it with a brillo pad, that should do it

brillo pad?! what? As far as I know, that's what you wanna do to a cd when you feel like destroying it for no reason what so ever. Brillo pads are really rough and would destroy it for sure. Do not use a brillo pad and do not "soak" it in alcohol.

if there was a scratch i MIGHT think about doing that. try booting it in another drive. your drive might have some issues. you could always get another cd from microsoft.

if you are getting a single error on a file it can't be the connections. the drive wouldn't work at all if that was the case. try to read the file by itself on another computer. if it still comes up as an error it could be a defect in the disk, posibly warped and corrupted bit or two. if you can read the file on another comp, try making a copy of the CD useing some of the guides that are out there on the net, look for a SP1 slipstream guide. if the file is not readable i would say send it back to microsoft for a new one.

It looks like either the CD can't load the files to disk (Harddisk) or you have a memory issue where the files can't be loaded into memory. Thats not a CD error.

Its your Harddisk or memory, check if all your memory is accounted for when booting and that the BIOS *sees* your Harddisk

PS: who else thinks that ntkrnlmp.exe actually looks like NT Kernel Lamp :p as ifd he's trying to switch the light on whee  :woot:

it's a problem with the ntkrnlmp.exe file on your disk, get a black sharpie and make a small dot about 1 inch from the right side of the disk, don't make it too big or you'll screw up your partition table, that should make it load fine, i've done it lots of times here at my sys admin job

just try to check your memory, I had same troubles 2 weeks ago at work. The problem came from a 256 Mb memory module that was defective, and the other one was OK. I just removed the bad one and everything went OK.

im gonna try ur idea now, i have 2 slots of 256 mb DDR ram.

Oddy See,

If I were you I would not listen to a word this crack brained Not_A_Virus dude is saying. He is full of [expletive] and the advice he is giving you would ruin your CD, and probably void any warranty from Microsoft.

Not_A_Virus: Get a clue. Either help out or shut up. In either case, quit being an ass. The guy is obviously having trouble - why make his life even worse, by pretending to know what you are talking about? If you do know what you are talking about...well then you are one sorry human being aren't you.

use Winamp to debug the install disc, then Ad-aware should be able to install from the 3.5 floppy

I guess I was supposed to laugh?

Sorry but I cannot resist the bait....

Here is a good one: why don't you get the sharpie, paint a mustache on your face, brush it lightly (or not) with a brillo pad, then rub a little alcohol on it. I know it's all in reverse order from your perscriptions, but I bet you the results will be hot!

PS: Careful not to blast Brittney Spears from your WinAmp while you do this....the results could be less than predictable and Ad-Aware could fail to see the mischief.

For CD repair I read on a site about toothpaste and a soft lint free cloth. So I read it on a few sites and said "I'll try that" cuz my Starcraft CD had like wear and tear and well... ah at least the cd won't get tartar, or gingavitus. I think toothpaste would only work on really uber small scratches.

Not_a_Virus:get a life man that isn't funny man.

    • Lol I had one of these turn faulty in Jan, guess it wasn't just bad luck lol
    • I'm team Rossmann all the way. I have the exact same NVME, altough not in an array like him.
    • It had gone weeks ago. Although thinking about it I'm on the beta.
    • They thought value of their goods would forever only drop like it used to and didn't account for sudden increase in price because of all the Ai hype. Tough luck Samsung, don't try to weasel this one out. Also American customer protection laws are a**. In Europe, you need to be compensated for a functioning product of same or better characteristics (not same price point as when it was originally bought!) if it can't be repaired and when you receive a replacement product your warranty starts from scratch because you received a different item than you previously had and old warranty thus cannot apply to it anymore. If your actual item was successfully repaired, warranty gets extended for the period the item was in service. If item is repaired to a significant extent, warranty also starts over from scratch because major part of it was replaced. Americans need to fight to get this kind of consumer protections because they are constantly getting screwed over.
    • Microsoft releases new Windows 11 Media Creation Tool with the latest updates by Taras Buria Patch Tuesday updates arrive every month, bringing users new features and security updates. To make sure customers have access to the most recent images, Microsoft also releases updates to the Media Creation Tool app, its official utility for Windows 11 installation. Today, the company pushed new ISOs to Media Creation Tool, allowing you to create images with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. With the latest update, the Media Creation Tool now downloads KB5094126. It is Windows 11 version 25H2, build 26200.8655, which is also available via Windows Update. Note that the app itself remains on the previous version, which you can check in Properties > Details. The only change is that it now downloads a more recent Windows 11 build, so the only way to check is to download an ISO. The June 2026 Patch Tuesday update is a special release for Windows 11, as it brings a new performance profile to make the operating system more responsive and snappier when rendering various user interface surfaces, including the Start menu, quick settings, and more. It does so by spiking processor speeds for a brief moment, resulting in higher loads for a second or two. The so-called “Low latency profile” is rolling out gradually, but you can force-enable it with the ViVeTool app. Other changes include webcam improvements, Task Manager updates, shared audio support, and more. You can download the Media Creation Tool app from the official Microsoft website using this link. Besides MCT, Microsoft lets you download Windows 11 ISO as a file directly from the official Windows 11 website. However, you will need a third-party app to write it to your USB drive. Check out this guide if you want to know how to do that.
