Menge
http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=579&a...xpert&pid=1 another quick review. looks on par with the 9800GTX but cheaper. i was kinda wishing it'd go up to GTX 260 levels Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/630665-ati-hd-4000-series/page/5/#findComment-589496442 Share on other sites
+shift. MVC Posted June 19, 2008 MVC Share Posted June 19, 2008 Nah, I don't think that's going to be reasonable considering how well they are priced now in comparison to the cards available on the market today. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted June 19, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted June 19, 2008 Whoa! It's $199 and it offers performance above the 8800GTX and below the HD 3870X2. ATi has done it again. They've finally released another "9700 Pro". Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/630665-ati-hd-4000-series/page/5/#findComment-589496940 Share on other sites
Robbie Khan Reviews Posted June 19, 2008 Reviews Share Posted June 19, 2008 The 4870 is out July too, check this out: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/amd_ra...orce_9800_gtx+/ Just look at those specs, the mem speed alone is faster than most peoples overclocked processors. Imagine the bandwidth! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/630665-ati-hd-4000-series/page/5/#findComment-589497081 Share on other sites

Robbie Khan Reviews Posted June 20, 2008 Reviews Share Posted June 20, 2008 the difference between pcie slots is minimal between 8x/16x - the rated BW on the 4870 non X2 is 116GB/sec too IIRC so indeed! it just has a lot of headway and optimisations! +shift. MVC Posted June 20, 2008 MVC Share Posted June 20, 2008 http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3338 Anandtech reveiws the 4850. The 4850 seems to be neck and neck with the 9800GTX. Definitely good news for AMD, although nVidia just announced the 9800GTX+ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/630665-ati-hd-4000-series/page/5/#findComment-589497475 Share on other sites

Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 4, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2008 The HD 4870 X2 should be out in mid-August. It'll feature 2GB of GDDR5 memory. It's also expected to cost $499 USD. Keep in mind that the GTX 280 costs $649 and it only features 1GB of GDDR3 memory. ATi has done it again. Finally! zerologic
I only have the PCIE 1.1 or something. Will a PCIE 2.0 card work for me? Looking very seriously at buying ATI and replacing my 8800GTS  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/630665-ati-hd-4000-series/page/5/#findComment-589531041 Share on other sites
Digitalx
that's good, now if only they'd revise the 4850 cooling and then the range would be perfect. PCI-e are both compatible with each other and 2.0 doesn't offer any benefits as of yet as long as they both run at x16. There's instructions floating around online on how to increase the fan speed using the built in Overdrive feature and a quick XML edit. My card now sits idle at 60 celsius using 65% fan speed as opposed to the 32% it shipped at. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted July 4, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted July 4, 2008 I read here that the prices dropped for the GTX 260/280. ATI should drop their prices slightly to counter it. +shift. MVC Posted July 4, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 4, 2008 I think they're still in pretty good shape even if they don't counter this price drop actually. ObiWanToby
I firmly believe ATI's image quality is better on the desktop, my Vista wallpaper doesn't seem as, rigid, the colors blend more. Plus the 4870 plays everything I want on maxed out settings at 1680x1050. This includes Crysis with no AA (Very High). I'm happy with ATI, I think people probably should go the ATI route still, after all Nvidia did cause 30% of the Vista crashes....
