Am I the only one not caring about this secretive organization? That somehow was involved in all the prior 24s incidents (or some anyway)? And Renee going Bauer style just seems silly. I was a fan of the show but I just can't get into what they've been doing with it lately. I'll probably just wait for dvds for season 8 (that is of course if opinions are high)

If Jack and Renee both agreed that something needed to be done to Alan Wilson why didn't they just let Tony kill him? They could have claimed they didn't have time to stop him. Seems stupid to get Renee in big trouble when Tony could have finished Wilson off.

I thought it was hilarious when Kim recovered that laptop and was telling Renee how to recover stuff off of it. Renee looked so surprised.

I was a bit shocked to find out Tony and Michelle were going to have a son.

Bill will be missed.

My wife and I kept making these type of comments: "Jack Bauer could kick Chuck Norris's ass in a bar fight..." "If Jack Bauer was a car he'd be a Lamborghini Gallardo." There were some others, but after reading comment #829 i forget them all. The show got pretty dang ridiculous.

According to my watch, it's time for the second piece of casting on 24's eighth season!

Chris Diamantopoulos -- best known as Debra Messing's gay BFF on The Starter Wife -- has been tapped to play the series regular role of Rob Weiss, the argumentative and tough new Chief of Staff to President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones). He replaces Taylor's current C.O.S., Ethan Kanin, who snatched his job back in last Monday's finale after the prez's psycho daughter, Olivia, was taken into federal custody.

As I previously reported, Day 8's action will switch from Washington D.C. to New York City and center on an assassination plot against a visiting foreign leader (Slumdog Millionaire's Anil Kapoor, the new season's first piece of casting).

This is season was so corny and predictable. I lost count of how many times I facepalmed watching the last two hours.

Agreed, show has been on last leg for the past few seasons and this season took the lame to another level. The first time after 7 seasons, I can say that I probably won't be tuning in for season 8.

Really...I was kinda hoping Jack would die so the show could end...

I mean, he was gonna DIE IN A FIRE. That, my friends, would have been a badass way to go (as a TV character).

That being said, the show ending on a cliffhanger is an even worse ending than Jack getting saved. Sigh...

Its ended on a cliffhanger before.

These last couple seasons have been great, 2-4 were rubbish. If you stayed in this long you know you won't be leaving for season 8. If you got through Kim vs. the mt. lion and came back this was hardly that bad.

Lame plot elements were fresh the first time around, it's when I start to see the same lame plot elements the second or third time through that the show is officially on it's last leg. At least make the effort to come with all new lame plot elements.

Jennifer Westfeldt, John Boyd cast in real-time drama

Jennifer Westfeldt and John Boyd have joined the cast of Fox's "24."

On the upcoming eighth season of the real-time drama, to be set in New York, "Kissing Jessica Stein" star Westfeldt will play the recurring role of Meredith Reed, an ambitious journalist with ties to Arman Hashemi (Anil Kapoor), a Middle East leader who comes to the U.S. on a peacemaking mission.

Boyd ("The Notorious Bettie Page") will be a regular on the 20th TV/Imagine series, playing CTU systems analyst Jonah Schwartz.

Westfeldt and Boyd join previously cast Kapoor and Chris Diamantopoulos as the "24" producers are filling nine major new roles for Season 8, slated to begin production today.

Westfeldt recently recurred on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and launched a production company with "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
