I suppose it is a bit of a 'recreational' racism. I would not necessarily believe that all gamers who use racist terms actively participate in racist activities in their lives, but it it the belief that in the anonymity of the online world, they are free to say such things and get away with it. As the terms are considered prohibited in society, it gives incentive for those who want to can use use them without consequences.

The best way to avoid lame/raciest players is to join a guild/clan/group or what have you that do not tolerate such behavior. Then when you play online you won't have to worry soo much about being harassed or putting up with griefers.

I stopped playing team based games on randomly made teams a long time ago. If I wanted to play a team based game I took part as a guest member in my friends online game clan. It had a lot of players and covering many games (UT, Quakes, MOH:AA, CS, etc...). I was only guest because I had my own tiny little clan, so I wasn't a full member taking part in their official events and matches, but I was allowed to group up with them for casual matches.

I don't know how the clan/group system works these days, especially on the console as I mostly been playing MMORPGs for the past years, but if you cannot find such a clan/group, perhaps you should start one. It's one of the easiest ways to avoid moronic team members online.

Have you ever experience racism in online gaming? How do you feel about it?

I was playing Call of Duty 4 with my brother and one of his friends on Xbox Live. Needless to say that the team that we joined was of course was 3 guys were friends. They dropped every racial slur possible. They seeing that my brother's gamertag was "the angry azn" and his friend's gamer tag was his name which is ethnic, they started to make fun of them as well. It was to the point where I wanted break my headset and never use one again.

All I can say is that i am fed up with these people that go day to day dropping "gook" "chink" "<< racial epithet >>" "<< racial epithet >>" "<< racial epithet >>" and so on in online gaming. Sure, we can report them and send them a bad feedback, but what does that really do? Is it really going to help?

It's an epidemic on Xbox Live, but I hear that my friends don't hear the same crap on PSN. They find it that there's actually people trying to add on to the enjoyment of the game by using the mic for its purpose and that is to help one another succeed in victory.

ya i know the feeling my gamer tage is "Angry WHITE guy"

and im always shocked when i get called honky or wagon burner :(

i expect better from such a mature and respected community of Xbox live players

cause after all we all know consoles are only used by mature adults

i would advise doing what i do..

throw a temper tantrum and break your stuff

and then run to the nearest forum and complain

let me know how that works out for you

I would just quit moaning about it on-line, take their tags, any screenshots and report to the webmaster of the site.

There are people that think they can hide behind their firewall and keyboard and diss & cuss to they're blue in the face and get away with it.

Get your evidence and go kick arse!

mine is "the hardco negro" Ill leave it to you to figure out the racial slurs I hear. The bad part is, im caucasian, so that makes it even funnier, and it gets funnier than that when I end up owning them in whatever im playing at the time. People just need to learn to ignore what other people say to you or about you.

I was banned from PSN for uttering the word "negro" in no real context, some people (obviously unlike yourself)have a really big chip on their shoulder.

****, i just realised aswell....

See my xbl gamertag, the icon i have got looks like the white europe logo haha.

Its a rainbow six crosshair logo obviously, but i recall seeing it sprayed on walls in some rough parts of europe with that at the end.

Bollocks.

well, the problem is, people cant let go of something that happened over 100 years ago (and in some parts of the world, it still happens, but those people are behind a few hundred years themselves) I dont really know why everyone cant get along. Were all different, and no one, not even hitler can or will change that. I wonder how far we as a united people would come if everyone stopped hating each other and actually started getting along with and helping each other.

I say do not fuel the fire. Call up the online support number for the game involved and make sure Customer Service knows what is going on in their game, and if the environment isnt respectful or safely maintained then they will lose users\players. If the users cant play with courtesy or respect they shouldn't be playing on there at all, its not enough that they harass others outside the gaming environment.

I think your blowing this up too much. xbox live is huge and alot of stupid teens mouth off all the time. I was a stupid teen once cause puberty gets the best of us sometimes. Now I am not calling all teens stupid but when your horny and have all these new feelings you just go crazy and locking your self in your room for days on an xbox can **** and make anyone bitchy.

You should try not to get offended by ignorant people, although I can see how offensive it can be I'm sure its better just to ignore them. I haven't been subject to any racism myself online (having a quite posh English accent ;) ) but a few of my friends have been, although it's rather annoying they cope with it by just ignoring it.

Saying that, its worse if it's a younger sibling having to cope with it, especially if it's not provoked by anything accept an accent. I think the best advise would be to remove tags saying 'azn'.

Typhon - Bitchy is not the same as being racist i would say

I'm actually tempted now to put AZN on my name even though I've never been anything but crazy white American :woot:

I can see how racial slurs would get under your skin. I hope MS works on cleaning that up.

It's hard to believe racism exists in some ways, but in others it's perfectly believable. People learn from things that happen to them as well as eachother, so it's partially just absorbed and partially a product of ones environment. Myself, it just makes me want to smack people.

What happened over 100 years ago?

Is that slavery, or was it a one man crusade to rid the world of Jews, gypsies, slavs, foreigners, blacks, disabled, or was it that some parts of the United States finally allowed

blacks into public schools with whites less than 30 years ago?

Explain yourself.

I wonder how far we as a united people would come if everyone stopped hating each other and actually started getting along with and helping each other.

That'll never happen. Human beings are terribly selfish, violent, greedy and sadistic creatures. Religion and laws were created to stop everyone from killing each other, and it hasn't helped much. When you add the anonymity of the internet to the mix, don't expect good behavior. Honestly, I'm surprised it's not worse than it is.

Most of you folks that thinking of removing "azn" out of the gamertag is going to stop the hate. Regardless, people will have something to say and if they can't find anything, they'll just throw the infamous N-word at you.

And for those who think this is a joke, have you ever experienced actual racism outside in the public? Hate has to start somewhere, and wether it be in an online game or a thread, that could manifest into something bigger. Not saying it will, but just might. These kids that play online and use such harsh words could be the ones that start the problems outside the internet against "different" people.

Really, in my opinion there's no hate. It's just a 'look cool, be cool' thing between friends who are idiotic and immature.

Recently in one TF2 game there was this retard who, when his friend got on, started talking gangsta talk and using spelling variations of the "N-word" (in-game word filter was on). Then this retard somehow forced alltalk to be on and spammed the mikes with this kiddy show clip up until I left the game 30 minutes later. Non-freaking stop, and anyone who told him to stop and STFU he responded with the N word in the chat log. Oh and he was whoring the sniper in 2Fort.

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
