[Official] Age of Conan

I know people have asked how does this game compare to wow and such, but not sure if anyone has asked.

Compared to Lord of the Rings Online, how similar is it, how different is it...better or worse or what do you think?

Yeah I still like it although it definetly isn't flawless. There are some broken quest which are apparently known about and rather than fix them they want to redesign the dungeon or whatever. Fine, but it'd be good if they removed the ability to get the Quest to begin with thus leading me astray (example is Enter The Pyramid in Khopsrich)

Other one is game performance. It runs ok but every now and again it seems to completely freeze up for 10 - 20 seconds which is a real pita when in combat.

I'm back on WoW for sure. I liked AoC, but after trying WoW again after a month and a half, there's just something about it I enjoy so much more. I can't put my finger on it, but it's definitely there, and I don't think I'm switching again.

Buddy keys now available

Posted: - 22.07.2008

We have now opened the first part of the Buddy key program for Age of Conan! Everybody who has purchased a Collector?s Edition can now invite up to five friends, who can try the game for seven days without purchasing a retail box.

The invitation process is easy. You need to log-in to your account pages (https://register.ageofconan.com), and choose ?Buddy program?. Follow the on-screen instructions, and then write a personal message to your friends if you so desire.

We recommend that you lend your install DVDs to your buddy to get him or her ready to play as fast as possible. Alternatively your buddy will be offered a $2,99/?2,99 client download with 3 additional days of playtime to cover the download time.

While this offer is only for Collector?s Edition accounts for now, we will soon open up for the Buddy key found in the standard retail box as well.

I have a collectors edition too but will be handing keys out to my counterstrike guild as asked for first. If I have any left overs in a wekk I'll be sure to let people know.

WoW had the fan support through all the rocky beginnings and now it is a very well polished game. What sucks is other MMO like LOTRO and AoC could really be a lot better than WoW if the developers had as much time to polish it.

Yeah, I completely agree. It seems like Funcom is working on it as much as possible, so hopefully they get things sorted soon. There are a lot of elements that make it a downright better game than WoW, but overall "fun-ness" (you know what I mean :p) lies with WoW for me.

While you do have a good point. Why do online game developers release the game before it's ready? Premature release was possibly the biggest reason for Auto Assault's failure. And its also a big factor on why games like: Hellgate, Vanguard, Tabula Rasa, and others aren't doing as well as they could. They were released before they featured even the basics like: auction houses, account banks, mail systems, top level content, and respecs. And quite possibly the most important thing missing would be an "overhyped" game launch. If no one knows what your game is or when its being release, how are they going to know to buy it?

Anyways, it really looks like a fun game, but the only thing that's going to get me started is a trial code.

Well since no one in my clan has responded I'll be happy to give out 5 keys, one to each person that PM's me.

My only condition is that you have the game files already some how...I don't care how but you can borrow a friends disk or whatever to install. If not you have to be willing to pay that $2,99/?2,99 fee for the client download (which gives you an extra 3 days).

I just don't want to be giving out keys to people that realise they don't have the files and aren't willing to go out of their way to get them or pay for them. Bare in mind if your dloading it will be quite a large download given the game comes over two DVD's and installs at about 30GB.

But yeah, if that's cool throw me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

Sorry, in addition to the above I didn't realise earlier but I need an email address in the PM too as it has an automated email or whatever it'll send out.

2 keys left.

Have you guys seen the Zero Punctuation review for AoC? http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/vie...38-Age-of-Conan

Haha, this is amazing ;) (and quite true)

I'm playing this Barbarian and specced into Berserk, and got loads of combo's now, thing is, I don't have enough room for all of them, and if I start putting them on all the extra hotbars, I wouldn't be able to use them effectively.. since I'm not gonna click them all the time ;(

Any suggestions ?

(I tried remapping the hot-bars to my own keys but that won't work for higher levels)

I think you're reaching there. LOTRO was polished before it even launched. Most impressive open beta I've ever seen.

    • This Chinese company is reportedly developing a feature Apple and Samsung can only dream of by Hamid Ganji While companies like Apple and Samsung have been relatively conservative with their devices’ battery capacities in recent years, Chinese manufacturers have taken the competition to the next level by introducing significantly larger batteries. However, the latest report from China suggests that a local company may already be developing a smartphone with a whopping 14,000mAh battery. Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station claimed on Weibo that a smartphone maker is developing a device with a 14,000mAh battery. If true, it would be the largest battery ever used in a smartphone and could, in theory, provide up to a week of battery life on a single charge. The leaker did not reveal the name of the company behind the device, but there are some clues. This week, HONOR unveiled the X80 Pro Max in China with an 11,000mAh battery and 90W wired charging support. The company also launched the Honor Win in January, which packs a 10,000mAh battery. HONOR, a former subsidiary of Huawei, has a proven track record of developing smartphones with unusually large batteries. However, other Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, have also launched devices such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max with 7,500mAh batteries. Though Chinese users on Weibo also believe the company behind the new battery is HONOR. Interestingly, Digital Chat Station said the device with the 14,000mAh battery weighs around 220 grams, making it lighter than the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max (233 grams) and slightly heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (214 grams). The iPhone 17 Pro Max currently packs a 5,088mAh battery in eSIM-only versions, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery. Neither device is expected to see a dramatic increase in battery capacity in its next-generation successor. So when it comes to battery comparison, Chinese brands are unbeaten. HONOR smartphones are currently available in the EU, but the Chinese brand has no official presence in the United States due to restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
    • Qualcomm takes on NVIDIA with new Dragonfly CPU and AI chips by Pradeep Viswanathan Microsoft, Google, Amazon, AMD, Meta, Apple, OpenAI, and several others have been developing their own chips for AI infrastructure. However, NVIDIA still remains the dominant player in the market. Today, Qualcomm announced a major expansion of its data center infrastructure portfolio to better compete with NVIDIA. The new lineup includes the Qualcomm Dragonfly C1000 CPU, Qualcomm High Bandwidth Compute technology, the Dragonfly AI300 inference accelerator, new connectivity products, and custom silicon solutions. Qualcomm claims that this new lineup improves performance per watt, token throughput, and total cost of ownership for AI data centers. The Dragonfly C1000 is a new data center CPU built with Qualcomm’s custom Oryon cores. This chip will feature more than 250 cores, frequencies above 5GHz, and a chiplet-based design. Qualcomm claims that this new C1000 can deliver more than 2x better performance per watt compared to existing server CPU offerings based on specifications. The Dragonfly C1000 will support PCIe Gen 7 with more than 2TB/s of connectivity, along with CXL, advanced RAS features, and both air and liquid cooling. Qualcomm expects the Dragonfly C1000 to be commercially available in 2028. Additionally, Qualcomm and Meta announced a multi-year, multi-generation agreement under which Qualcomm will supply Dragonfly C1000 data center CPUs for Meta’s next-generation server fleet. Qualcomm also announced High Bandwidth Compute, a new near-memory computing architecture designed to address AI’s memory bandwidth bottleneck. HBC Gen 1 will debut with the Dragonfly AI250, which is expected to sample in mid-2027. The AI250 will deliver 133TB/s per card, an 18x increase in effective memory bandwidth compared to the AI200 with LPDDR5X. The new Dragonfly AI300 with HBC Gen 2 is a rack-level AI inference platform from Qualcomm. Qualcomm claims that the AI300 can deliver 4x to 8x better performance per watt compared to existing GPU-based architectures based on memory bandwidth per watt per card. The Dragonfly AI300 is expected to be available in 2028.
