i thought i would post here and see if anybody knows what could be up...

just recently, everytime i shutdown, the window appears saying there is processes running, and they being shutdown... (look at screen-shot)

this just started, and it has happened everytime i shut down... just for a second.. and poof, its gone...

i tried changing my waittokill from 4000 (what it has been on for over a year now) to 15000, that didnt do anythying...

the only think i think that coudl be causing this is my new bamboo mouse/tablet from wacom... i can try uninstalling... and see if that helps...

its just that its a pain, i had to disable some services because it was throwing a big old keyboard on my login screen...

my guess is it is that... but the shutdown message says

TaskEng - Task Schedule Engine Process

ive looked in the even log, nothing stood out...

any helpful tips?

thank you guys

pj

Why would you have Automated Tasks of RAC and RA??? Ie scheduled tasks..

I think your looking in the wrong place.

What do you show for tasks? Run this.

%SystemRoot\System32\taskschd.msc

edit: Ok I see your looking in the right place.. Do you have any tasks that you have created - not just the system related ones?

edit: Here are the default tasks

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939039

Description of the scheduled tasks in Windows Vista

edit: But your correct their are "hidden" tasks for RAC and RA.. My Bad

Edited by BudMan

Ok your not going to see the RSS feed task unless you "show hidden tasks" under view

If you have never subscribed to a feed, it might not be there? Not sure on that - since I have feeds subscribed, etc.

you can see my face in the top photo.. kinda freaky...

anyhow, figured that one out.. i had the new sound pack from vista ultimate... the sound was too long!

just shorted it up a bit...

i uninstalled my tablet mouse, and reinstalled, all seems to be fine agian... we will wait and seeee

thanks

pj

just leave the shutdown timer at default, task manager is just telling you that it has not shut down all the processes and the sounds are useless,it will shutdown,if you have alot of stuff running it may take a min or 2.it is perfectly normal.

my shutdown is FAST.. always has been.. that is nothing new.. what is new is the black box saying something is running .. .and that just flashes momentarily... i fixed it by shorting up the shutdown sound... (i got the ultimate sound opack from windows update, the sounds are a little long)

  • 6 months later...

I'd just like to say a big thanks guys - I had the same shutdown problem which just appeared out of the blue. I never associated it with the Vista Ultimate sound themes but when I switched back to the standard theme the shutdown problem went away. I would never in a million years have associated this sort of problem with a sound scheme.

Thanks!

Clive

your welcome!

so many variables.. i know, it can make it tough!

usually if you can remember what you did/or change/ you can undo it, and see...

but you must be very observant!

(or good with the error/event logger!)

(or just google your problem!)

glad this post could help you out!

    • Here's what iPhone models support iOS 26 by Hamid Ganji After months of swirling rumors, Apple kicked off its WWDC 2025 event today. The event was mostly focused on a slew of new AI-driven features for Apple devices and the company's new operating systems, which carry the Liquid Glass design. However, iOS 26 was the flagship of the event as it posed to alter the user experience of Apple's best-selling product, the iPhone. During the event, Apple announced the list of compatible iPhone models with iOS 26. Here is the list: iPhone 16e iPhone 16 iPhone 16 Plus iPhone 16 Pro iPhone 16 Pro Max iPhone 15 iPhone 15 Plus iPhone 15 Pro iPhone 15 Pro Max iPhone 14 iPhone 14 Plus iPhone 14 Pro iPhone 14 Pro Max iPhone 13 iPhone 13 mini iPhone 13 Pro iPhone 13 Pro Max iPhone 12 iPhone 12 mini iPhone 12 Pro iPhone 12 Pro Max iPhone 11 iPhone 11 Pro iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone SE (2nd generation or later) If you own any of these iPhone models, you can expect to receive the first iOS 26 public beta next month via the Apple Beta Software Program. Also, developers can already access iOS 26 beta through the Apple Developer Program. The stable version is expected to drop in September with the iPhone 17 series. The above list of compatible iPhones with iOS 26 also signifies the end of software support for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. It's important to note that these models might still receive security updates from Apple to safeguard the device against potential threats. Apple calls iOS 26 "our broadest design update ever." It includes significant upgrades and changes compared to the previous version, though the final thoughts about the experience will be determined after the first beta hits users' devices next month. iOS 26 is also heavily focused on AI capabilities as Apple has expanded the footprint of its Apple Intelligence suite to almost every corner of the operating system.
    • Thank you for mentioning Windows Vista in the title of a news article.
    • Let's be real. Part of the motivation of the UI change is to increase CPU/RAM usage, which slows down older devices and makes battery life worse, therefore tempting people into upgrading to the latest devices. We've been through this enough times to know that the iOS updates never improve performance. Personally I value battery life over eye candy.
