PS3 has outsold Xbox 360 in Europe

Why bother writing it at all then, I might as well just say "Person X is a complete moron /jk ;)" and just because of that little bit at the end it immediately means nothing and is completely irrelevant.

No idea, I didn't invent the rules. Its just the way it is.

I agree. The XBOX360 can be had for half the price and simply has better games

I bought a new HDTV and a PS3 to go with it - 360 never even came to the consideration because of its pitiful support for HDTVs (native 1080p), lack of a Bluray player and otherwise dismal controller - indeed, 360 has more and maybe even better games but as a multimedia entertainment device it's bending over for the PS3.

Who cares about the price when you can afford a huge ass TV anyway?

1 - AFAIK the 360 does support native 1080p. Very few games are actually in 1080p, but that is the same with the PS3 too.

2 - your right there

3 - Thats debatable. Personally I find the 360's pad much nicer than the PS3's.

I love it when you spread lies to make your console choice seem better...

- as has been said the 360 has full 1080p support, had it before the PS3 launched, and it may even have more 1080p native games(not sure about the numbers as they are right now)

- multimedia... well the 360 lets me play music frommy computr while playing, it's got a media center extendr, making it a true medi center, unlike the PS3.

- the controller, well again subjective, but yeah, most PS3 fans even admit the 360 controller is better to hold and use. It's also got neat acessories like the chatpad, that'll make the 360 the only true contender now as MMO's are entering the console market.

yes the 360 has more and better games, THAT's why I bought the 360 as my GAME console. if I wanted a blu ray player, I'd buy one. and it's hardly bending over to the PS3 as a media center, they're pretty much about equal. except for the inability to play blu-ray.

since you bring money into the equation and claim that you may as well go with the expensive console if you can afford a big scren TV. Well in that case, my HTPC with a DVB-C card and the abiity to pop in a blu-ray/HD-DVD player/burner makes the PS3 bend over and scream for mommy. and since I used my old PC parts for most of it, it's actually cheaper than the PS3 even, heck it even plays games pretty decently with my old GF7800GT.

So if you got the money and want a proper media center, the PS3 is not the way to go. I want my games console to be my games console and my media center to be what it does best, be a media center.

You are spreading FUD.

The XBOX360 has 1080p support with no issues and the XBOX360 has a better controller design than the aging 10 year old PS one.

This isn't about controllers, native resolutions or any of that. The news here is that the Playstation 3 has outsold its main competitor, despite the fact that it has been in the market for a full year and a half less. Despite the fact that it has been more expensive from the get-go, and plagued by an onslaught of (often unfounded) criticisms. I think this is a clear testament to the Playstation brand's strength, for one, and an indicator of something that is as obvious as it is ignored by members of this forum: we are not representative of the majority. Whether you think the Xbox 360's superiority is unquestionable or are appalled by rootkits, if you think the PS3 is just a trojan horse for Blu-Ray, if you think it's game library sucks, it still says nothing about what the general consumer believes.

Fanboys can duke it out as much as they like in these forums, but the reality is far different from their geeky perceptions of it. So instead of arguing back and forth with people who will probably disregard your opinion blindly anyways, something more productive (albeit harder to come up with) is to contribute to the topic by mentioning or things worth noting.

I think this news is surprising, even to the most ardently Sony-obsessed. Given the flack the Playstation received upon its release, and the fact that it was late to the game and overpriced to boot, I would've thought it'd take at least another years for sales figures to be comparable in Europe. It seems Xbox 360 is losing in two of the three main markets (Europe and Asia, the other being North America); do you guys think Sony will eventually catch up over there as well?

EXACTLY correct. One of the biggest things that people forget are the average consumers. We are not them. The average consumer doesn't usually even know what a Gigabyte is, let alone why the PS3 is different than the 360, other than NEW AND AWESOME HD PLAYER! The average consumer looks at a price tag and basic features and makes the decision pretty quickly. This is why the PS3 sold merely as a Blu Ray player and not a game machine.

Most of you may think I am wrong, but the average consumer will generally buy something that is more expensive assuming they get more for what they pay for. It also has the media standard on its side. If the 360 had integrated HD-DVD directly into the system, I doubt Blu-Ray would have won the format war and HD-DVD would still be in the fight right now. So thats two things it has that have nothing to do with gaming. The last thing it has is reputation. Sony was last generations leader in both amount of content/games and sales. They are still using that to influence their fans with promises of new games (of course, the games they promised took upwards of a year to be released or are STILL in developement... KZ2 I'm looking at you).

Selling points have nothing to do with what we arguing about in this thread. Price is a factor, but not really too big of one since both consoles are a relatively large investment. The only true difference is the PS3 plays to two markets while the 360 only plays to one.

^^^All your stuff holds true, until you factor in the part where, based on worldwide sales estimates, and these numbers for Europe, the Xbox 360 is outselling the PS3 about 2 to 1 in North America, the largest of the markets. You can't generalize all that stuff to the average consumer if it doesn't appear to hold true for even a majority of them.

If you're just generalizing to the average consumer in Europe, then you can go ahead and ignore this post.

BTW does anyone here know what is the official figure of hardware sold in the first place. I know last year both 360 and PS3 sold almost evenly with 250k +/- in europe (I am talking about march, I need the figure of what they sold up to date).

Why do you need it?

So the PS3 is killing the 360 in Japan and now winning in Europe. As far as I know they sales pace is about even in America at the moment and with none of PS3's big titles released yet, thats pretty good for being a year behind. I expect after MGS4, Gran Turismo, God Of War, Killzone, Final Fantasy, Little Big Planet, Home etc...drops the PS3 is going to leave the 360 in its dust.

 ur kidding me right.

Umm, because it's always good to know by how much they are out selling with.

and ohh thanks spencer. (Y)

Sorry but that is rather pathetic. Good to know how much the 360 is outselling the PS3? Good in what way? For a start the figures are not even on a level playing field so are going to be in favour of the 360.

I see no reason, other that to spout fanboy rubbish that anybody would care for these figures to see how much its outselling the PS3.

If you have to discuss these slightly unbalanced figures, do it in the 360 forums.

^^^He asked a god**** question with no insinuation of fanboyishness. Back the hell off of him. The answer was easy enough to give without being a jerk.

-Spenser

His answer to why he wanted the figures reeked of fanboyism though, didn't it. That was what I was commenting on.

So before getting on your soap box I suggest you read the post first.

It is the home country. The original XB sold extremely well in the US despite being behind. Maybe it was because we had an american made console, similar to Sony/Nintendo love in Japan. I'm not sure why Americans are so more inclined to buy the 360 than foreigners, but from what I have seen most consumers think more money = higher quality.

I love it when you spread lies to make your console choice seem better...

Actually I have access to both so your point is moot.

multimedia... well the 360 lets me play music frommy computr while playing, it's got a media center extendr, making it a true medi center, unlike the PS3

Why would I want to have a computer running at the same time as playing my videos/movies/etc. Waste of electricity - I can get the job done with the PS3 alone and if I want a "real" media center, I can always install Linux on the PS3 which then blows away anything you can ever imagine to get on your 360.

the controller, well again subjective, but yeah, most PS3 fans even admit the 360 controller is better to hold and use.

Most, most and most. I think the net has taught people to conjure up statistics and opinions out of their butt - you don't know most PS3 users, you don't know most 360 users and you most definitely have no clue what those people think. So please spare us the "most people ding dang dong" this or that.

if I wanted a blu ray player, I'd buy one.

Not everyone has the same needs as you - many people out there are buying the PS3 because they want a single box that "does it all" - gaming and viewing movies. One of its greatest selling points in EU so far has been the fact that it's more of a media device than just a gaming console.

Well in that case, my HTPC with a DVB-C card and the abiity to pop in a blu-ray/HD-DVD player/burner makes the PS3 bend over and scream for mommy.

I can pop in Linux to PS3, insert a DVB-T/C/S USB dongle (Almost any USB will do - for example the Pinnacle E series DVB-T works right out of the bat with the LinuxTV.org's DVB stack) and run the system as a complete media center with DVR capabilities, Blu-Ray capabilities and as a full blown computer should I need to - all this in much nicer casing and for the most part smaller form factor than you'll ever be able to fit your HTPC into.

    • A different thing with Russia. When you say is it better, depends on things. It is better that we don't have the E.U making rules and laws that have nothing to do with them. Is the trading part better? No, that is really mucked up, but then we knew that was going to happen and we would have make agreements, like we do with other parts of the world. Freedom of movement is certainly better, but could be improved, we still need more control over our borders. do you live in the U.K?
    • So what am I quoting from them? I never listened to what Farage or his cronies said. I wanted the U.K to leave the E.u years before the referendum and it had nothing to do with Farage and his cronies. So what country do you live in? Did we work much better together? We were always at logger heads with the E.U because we disagreed with them so much. Maggie was always on at them. I would have thought the E.U was glad to get rid of us as we stopped the integration or made it a two tier. Now without us they can integrate more. I would not have voted out if it was just a trading block and we can still work together on somethings.

    • Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices.
