GD08: Killzone 2 (Pictures/Videos/Release Date)

Recommended Posts

It looks like our coverage of the Gamer's Day is now almost done, so we decided to reencode our Killzone 2 footage with the best quality possible. Full 720p resolution and better deinterlacing/deblending helps quite a bit to see the little details everywhere. I'm sure the numerous fans of the game will be pleased!

 !

Ermmm... We already have 1080p native games on the PS3.

Not many graphics intensive games in 1080p though.

I expect it'll be 720p, especially if they're giving screens in 720p atm I doubt very much they're going to change that to 1080p this late into production.

It looks awesome in 720p anyway, so I don't really mind even though it would be nice to see some 1080p games in this "HD" generation (from both consoles, not just PS3)

Fair point.

I am still seeing some pretty unimpressive AI. In the last game play video, he walked directly out in the open with 4 guys looking directly at him and didn't take a single bullet. He had enough time to carefully aim and take the last guy out. I don't care how many shades of grey they can add to the game, if the AI is that stupid it won't be any fun.

PS: Does anyone else think that .gif looks like a black and white video with only the sky and rocket being colored?

No, I think it looks superb

As for the AI, the game is still Alpha build. Plenty of time to sort it. :)

There isn't much colour in most of the screens/gifs tbh :/ Haven't watched the videos though. Hopefully they'll make it a bit more colourful for the release :p

Looks pretty good but with $ony its always hard to tell. For all we know its running on a high end dev machine or by the time they get the physics, large levels and ai finished the graphics may get cut back. At least it doesnt look rendered like previous trailers for Playstation games.

It beats Quake Wars hands down for looks but I would think Gears of War 2 and a few other titles may looks as good and get released earlier.

Did you miss the part that said that its not set to release till feb NEXT year?

so? if you don't want us discussing pre-release quality stuff, then don't release pre-release quality stuff. i wasn't even complaining - just happened to notice that detail...

Nope, they learnt their lesson at E3. Its all using the ingame engine. There are plenty of ingame footage movies that back this up.

I prob didnt get my point across accurately. Yeah its the in game engine for sure, but a PS2/XBOX could produce similar visuals (at a lower def) if they threw the total processing power in to drawing a few characters and backdrops and not complete levels, physics and AI.

To put it another way, say the polygon count per car of a PS2 racer is 1000 and a PS3 racer is 10,000. The PS2 could draw 1 PS3 car and it would look great, but it could not draw 10 PS3 cars all racing together. But to sell the PS2 game, trailers, trade shows etc... a PS2 could be shown drawing a PS3 quality car, but when the game finally came out as it would need other cars on the track, physics and AI the cars polygon count would need to be reduced.

Many companies have done this in the past, limited tech demos etc... and then the final game, while looking similar didn't have the same level of detail.

?

Many many people have played KZ2, and I'm sure you watched the few feeds of people playing the game on screen.

How it looks is what you're getting, and it can only get better for next year.

No, you did. Its just it was a crap point ..

The game has been played, on a PS3. Nothing else. As Audioboxer said, what you are seeing is what you will get (probably bigger and better though as they still have 9 months)

    • Chrome has history of being the browser everyone uses because Internet Explorer sucks, not realizing that Edge changed that, but people got into the habit of using Chrome. I use Brave and I've never been happier with a browser. It does what it is meant to do and gets out of the way.

    • Microsoft launches Godot Sample to streamline Xbox PC game development on the engine by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft today announced a new endeavor that aims to make it simpler for Godot developers to get their products into the Xbox PC ecosystem. Dubbed the "XBOX Godot Sample," this is a new public reference for developers using the open-source engine. This is set to serve as an example of how Microsoft GDK, Xbox Services, and PlayFab can be integrated into their projects. The sample is available now on GitHub as a working example. This covers key features in gaming projects that developers may need to release their projects on Xbox PC, with everything from matchmaking and game sign-in to gamepad compatibility with Godot being covered. This release is being called the first step in giving Godot developers the tools to bring their games over to Xbox PC, with more changes to come based on feedback and issue reports. However, the company was clear that this is not related to bringing Godot projects to Xbox consoles. The engine's open development model stops it from accessing console SDKs due to the requirement of NDAs and legal contracts. Here's how it explained this Godot sample project's focus: This is a source-only sample, not a product. It's MIT-licensed at the wrapper layer; the GDK and PlayFab dependencies still require their own installs and license acceptance, consistent with our other XBOX samples. There is no set update cadence for support or maintenance. We’ll watch the repo, monitor issues, and iterate where it makes sense, but this isn't a commercial release. That said, we’re excited to hear your feedback and see any community PRs, as we evolve this together. This is the first step in bringing Godot for XBOX on PC. We plan to evolve it over time based on what the community tells us is most valuable. This sample is built specifically for XBOX on PC. It doesn’t include support for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One. If you’re already building for XBOX Series X|S or XBOX One, please talk with your XBOX representative. If not, you can get started by signing up here. Game developers can find the XBOX Godot Sample by heading to GitHub over here. Documentation on how to get started with Godot for building an Xbox PC project can be seen here.
