Converting .MKV Files

hey guys, ive got a few movies in .mkv format, and i want to transfer them to my ps3 so i can watch them, my question is what is the best converter that i can use that will convert them to mpeg1 or avi? ive tried magic video converter, avs video tools, and i get an error with mkv to avi converter.

Although, before you start converting i suggest you read Audioboxer's guide as pointed out above, then you'll get the best result :)
