DAE_JA_VOO
Hi there guys Some background. I've got a PC that has one of those "hidden recovery" partitions. This machine is running XP. So i formatted the XP partition (leaving the recovery partition intact) to install Ubuntu. I wasn't happy with Ubuntu so now i'm trying to recover XP from the recovery partition. I've installed XP on the OS partition now and i'm trying to add the recovery partition to the boot loader menu, but i can't seem to find the partition value. Any help will be greatly appreciated :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/636674-help-adding-a-partition-to-bootini/ Share on other sites
Mr. Gibs
Don't think you can do that with boot.ini Try pressing F12 or F2 when you first turn on your computer and see the bios screen with your computer manufacturer's logo on it Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/636674-help-adding-a-partition-to-bootini/#findComment-589396518 Share on other sites

DAE_JA_VOO
Yes but that's not what i want. I WANT the recovery partition to work, as i want to recover from it. The machine this is on has VERY unique drivers. Panacik
But that's also not how i want to do this. I want the recovery partition to remain intact. Do you know what partition type the recovery partition is? I.e. NTFS or Fat? If its fat, then you should be able to get to it using a Boot cd of floppy (if you have a floppy drive. the other thing you can do is add an entry to your boot.ini to point to the drive, however, you need to know exactly what you need to run to start the setup from there. Running setup.exe, winnt or winnt32 from there probably will not work. You best bet would be to install grub4dos and chainload a dos boot disk. Then from dos, run the setup.
