Next Xbox to carry over Achievements?

Tuesday 13-May-2008 11:59 AM New system tipped to be out in 2010 says rumour

A couple of rumours have appeared in the latest issue of US mag Game Informer about Microsoft's future plans for the next Xbox. And there's some good news for Achievement fanboys if this particular rumour does turn out to be true.

Of course we won't know if it's true for a few years yet, it's not like MS would confirm the stories. But those Xbox 360 gamers who pride themselves in having a MASSIVE gamerscore over a car, mortgage, family and cat, should know that all their hard work might not be for nothing.

Yes, as funny as that sounds, Game Informer's rumour section says that MS will have your achievements carry over.

File this one under 'rumour' for the time being but there are at least seven people in the office who said 'awesome' when we told them.

I think that was coming anyway, since some will prefer getting games for 360 for achievements. I would be really hard for MS to just turn it off.

Also DM, I don't think MS will be in competition with Sony about Achievements Vs Trophies. Maybe they will expand it with something over time but competing over this thing is just ridicules :hmmm: . :argue:

This is pretty damn good news if its' true. I am totally looking forward to the new system by 2010. I can't even imagine how powerful that machine will be. Full 1080p games probably @ 60fps and games will look sick. For those with less money I guess you could get a 720p version of the game for Xbox 360 which should cost at around $100-$150 by then. Achievements transferring would top it all as a sign that new Xbox will sync with Xbox 360. That's great news.

I have no doubts they'll continue achievements on the next Xbox, and most likely expanding the system somehow. Possibly something to compete with Home's trophies

I don't think they have to worry too much about that right now as the only one competing is Sony because they don't even have their system up yet. :p

@Huleboren - Why?

Why  cause your sucks. Just kidding

So everyone gets a fresh start on the future xbox

- then newcomers wont be terribly behind in scores..

Also, I doubt the gamerscore system will remain the same in the future..

It's not a contest though. Your GS is a representation of the games you've played, and what you've tried to do in those games. It shouldn't discriminate between Xbox 360 games and Xbox 720 games (especially considering half of all games these days are sequels anyways, so why would you make that distinction).

+1 (Y) I see no other way around it. It has to evolve and grow beyond what it is, but at the same time, it cannot forgo its history.

Completely agree here, Achievements were a big win for Microsoft on the 360. Sony is trying to copy them with trophies, but it's not quite ideal as it's something that has appeared half way through the PS3's lifecycle (ok not exactly half, but you know what I mean). New console means new possibilities, possibilities that will be implemented from the get-go.

Achievements are worthless.

Yes, but very addictive IMO

I really hope they make a seperate score for the new xbox so it won't be mixed, but I still hope the old score will be appearing on xbox.com or on your new Xbox dashboard.

But generally my opinion is:

New Xbox - New Score

Well having 2 different score system doesn't make any sense. Of course they can make the system so that people can decide them self, one can choose to show both scores (360 and Next Xbox) and just 360 or just Next Xbox.

They have to make it that way so people can sort score by genre, system, scores etc.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
