I think it is done on purpose as well. Thinking about the leaked episode. How can only one episode leak this far ahead and nothing else? Showtime has their guard down every season and then once it happens they take measures to stop it? They forgot it happened the previous season? I don't buy it. I think they do it on purpose to get more attention.

My two cents...

Yes.. I agree.. they did leak it on purpose so they can suck more people in, especially since the first episode is AWESOME! and just makes you want to watch more.

I just started watching the first season tonight. I borrowed the DVD from a friend since I have heard so many great things about the show.

It's witty, intelligent, way better than the normal crap you see on tv but...

The damn voice over. I feel like I am watching 'Bladerunner' with Harrison Ford, forced by the studios, to say every little thing, in case the audience is too dense to figure it out.

I'll still watch it, I'm intrigued and my friend has the second series on DVD as well, but I just think it would of been better without Dexter's voice over. The exposition over every little bit of scene of the series.

How cool would it be to watch it, without the voice over? To figure out the nuances by ourselves?

I personally think the voice over and the insight to Dexter's mind is great. It really exposes how he feels inside and his thoughts make the series what it is, I think.

^ The idea, though, is to be in the mind of a serial killer. If you read the novels, it is in the same format.

For me, the most annoying thing is the opening title. It was cool the first episode, but after that it is really annoying.

My thoughts exactly.

So that makes it more like the Wonder Years? Seesh, I never thought of Kevin (played by Fred Savage) as a Serial killer in the making! :p

  • 2 weeks later...

So I just started watching Dexter about two weeks ago. One of my roommates has Season 1 on DVD and I managed to watch all of that. I think Season 2 might be On Demand so I'll see if I can catch up on that, but I went ahead and watched the season premiere just now and it was pretty good. Set a bunch of stuff up that makes it look like it's going to be a very interesting season.

Very good series overall though, especially for someone like me who's a psychology major and interested in criminal justice/forensics.

Anyone watch Season 3 Episode 1 last night?

How does he also end up making a mess for himself for a man so damn careful.

If by mess you mean what happened with Rita at the end of the episode:

I dont know, i hate how he is SOOOOOO interested in Rita now, he is getting comfortable, in the books he only uses Rita as an accessory to look normal in other people's eyes, to not raise suspicion, and that is how it was for most part of season 1, now it seems like he actually **loves** her, and it ****es me off, in the life he follows there is no love, he has to watch everything he does... Hopefully they wont ruin the character, wont complain anymore until i see the rest of the season.

I disagree with the Rita part. In the beginning Dexter stated that he didn't have an emotions and that the relationships were just a cover. I think he is or was lying to himself. He clearly does have emotions, he may not realize it himself, that makes him an even more interesting and complicated character. Without Rita and the kids, he falls apart both personally ala season 2 and as a character. Dexter would be much too one dimensional without his personal relationships especially Rita and the kids.

Well as i was saying, .. in the books.., in the books he doesn't really care for Rita, he does care about the Kids as he has interest in training them as Harry once did with him.

I know the TV series is taking another approach for a different consumer, and as far as that goes, i AM enjoying the TV version. I just feel like they are making him too vulnerable, though i hope what happened in the first episode makes him realize he has been letting his guard down too much.

BTWW in the books the "Lila" part of season 2 never takes place thus you never actually see if Dexter falls apart without Rita.

I haven't read the books yet. I hear they are really good and have heard they take a different path than the show does. They are on my reading list.

Yes they are awesome, the only one that resembles the Series is the first one, "Darkly Dreaming Dexter", still some things are different of course...

The other 2 take a different approach, the third one, "Dexter in the Dark" is crap and it should only be read by fans of the series. There is a new one coming out soon too, hopefully it will be good.

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
