Dollhouse Episode 13 is DVD Only

UPDATE, 3:38 p.m.: Spoiler alert! Just snagged ya'll some exclusive new info on "Epitaph One." A source whispers to me that "Epitaph One" comes from the writerly brains of Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. It's a totally non-finale-ish stand-alone episode, and?here's the crazy part?it's apparently set in the future, after the apocalypse, amidst total anarchy. And yes, I am describing an episode of Dollhouse, not a scene from Terminator. No word yet on where, when or how we might be able to see it if not on Fox, but just off the top of my head, Hulu, DVD/Blu-Ray and/or a special Comic-Con screening all come to mind. What sounds good to you?

Fox will not be airing the "13th episode" of Dollhouse, as tweeted by @drhorrible and @feliciaday. However, there appears to be some debate about what qualifies as a 13th episode and what qualifies as a season finale. Here's what we've sorted out about the end of Dollhouse...

Brace yourself, guys, because there's going to be math in this story.

Fox the television network ordered 13 episodes of Dollhouse. As everybody knows, they scrapped the original pilot, "Echo." So that is 13 less one, which brings us down to 12. The 12th and final episode that Fox the television network ordered and paid for and will air is called "Omega" and was written and directed by Tim Minear (who has told us he "can't wait" for us to see it). Focused on the Alpha storyline, sources say that "Omega" apparently "closes some doors and opens other ones" and was always intended to be and to effectively serve as the season-one finale. ("Omega" logline, if you're into that kind of thing: "Alpha's reign of terror continues as his obsession with Echo endangers Caroline's survival. Ballard must make a life-changing decision, and one Doll is permanently deactivated while another's shocking past is revealed.")

Now, let's go back to the original equation and add in an episode called "Epitaph One." "Echo" the original pilot plus 12 episodes through "Omega" plus "Epitaph One" brings us to a total of 14 episodes.

The 14th episode, "Epitaph One," was produced and paid for by Fox the television studio. It was never ordered, requested or paid for by Fox the television network, and Fox the television network will not be airing "Epitaph One." Working on getting you more details about "Epitaph One," but it's said to be more of a "stand-alone" episode.

(Note: Tim Minear just posted on Whedonesque about "Epitaph One" saying, "Because we scrapped the original pilot?and in fact cannibalized some of its parts for other eps?we really ended up with 12 episodes. But the studio makes DVD and other deals based on the original 13 number. So we created a stand-alone kind of coda episode. Which is the mythical new episode 13. The network had already paid for 13 episodes, and this included the one they agreed to let us scrap for parts. It does not include the one we made to bring the number back up to 13 for the studio side and its obligations. We always knew it would be for the DVD for sure, but we also think Fox should air it because it's awesome.")

So, to summarize, Fox the television studio made 14 episodes of Dollhouse, and Fox the television network paid for the 13 that it originally ordered and is airing 12 of them.

A last, and very important, note: According to sources on the network side, the net's not picking up and airing "Epitaph One" has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not they pick up the series for a second season, a situation which, I'm told, is "100 percent in the decision phase." You can obviously believe them or not as you choose, but I take them at their word. I may be a sucker like that.

Great to see Dollhouse be picked up. As the show grows, Whedon's writing gets even stronger. Loved the last episode as it is picking up really good.
great ep. finally some serious stuff this time around.
Really loving Dollhouse at the moment, the whole concept is brilliant, they could take it in ANY direction :D

The past few episodes have been very good! Definitely did not see that turn with Mellie.

Yeah the Millie story is good atm, I just feel the closer we get to episode 12 so 3 episodes the more we are going to want more and not get them.

Yeah I am having this terrible gut feeling were going to completely fall in love with and then get shafted :(

Millies sub plot is awesome really does develop itself well (Y)

Yeah all signs are saying that the 12 will be it, if only the DVR ratings can save it! we'll see what Fox does with Sarah Connor if Fox saves that then Dollhouse has a massive chance.

You know, it's interesting. When the show started, a huge part of the criticism was how you'd never be able to form a connection with Echo if she just keeps getting wiped, but I really enjoy how she's playing out....

She may be getting wiped however she has 'evolved' since the pilot, the last episode (9) was a great example of that.

Yeah the wiping doesn't fully work now which is why the show is getting awesome, I presume Alpha is the same.

ELIZA DUSHKU

ALLURE: Are you comfortable with nudity?

ELIZA DUSHKU: "I grew up with three brothers, and I was never shy about covering up. It got to the point where my mom was like, 'OK, honey, it's time to put some clothes on now.'"

ALLURE: What about these days?

ED: "I'll strip down to my underwear and my Ugg boots when I eat lunch in my trailer."

ALLURE: How would you compare this to filming a love scene?

ED: "Love scenes are much more multidimensional, because often you have two people who have just met and you're rolling around, and it's more awkward than when you're posing alone."

:p

Edward in West Deptford, N.J.: How about some Dollhouse scoop?

As we reported last week, Dollhouse episode 14, aka "Epitaph One," takes place in the future, but we've since learned that the ep is set 30 years in the future, and that the episode includes no main characters. Hmmm...Speaking of Dollhouse, the Victor-Lonelyhearts reveal was a shocker, no? Does that lay to rest your doubts about the Dollhouse being almost purely an engine of sexual exploitation? Or is the Dollhouse just like any new technology?film, VHS, the Internet?where the porny types are always the first adopters?

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
