Joss Whedon talks at length about the chances of Dollhouse getting a second-season order. Excerpt:

?So right now I?ve gone from a sort of place of ?You don?t even care, nobody loves me? [laughs] to a place of God, I can?t believe I?m saying this ... hope.

?We might actually get the chance to do what we?re dying to do, which is tell more of these stories with these crazy people because we have so many more yet to come,? Whedon said of the series in which Eliza Dushku (Buffy) plays an ?active? whose memory is wiped and replaced to suit various ?engagements.?

?Basically it?s what happens in the next few weeks; we have a new lead-in (replacing 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'), we have a few more episodes coming up ? whether it?s 12 or 13 ? they are fierce,? he added. ?They are ridiculous; I am so proud of them. We?re going to go out this season with a bang, and hopefully we?ll get to come back for Season 2.?ly we?ll get to come back for Season 2.?

Whedon makes a good point here, about Prison Break moving into the Terminator slot. Break should give Dollhouse a stronger lead-in, though Fox will also wWhedon also discusses the 12th and 13th episodes. One of which is scheduled to air, and the other is not, along with a a couple ever-amusing What the Silly Network Suits Said anecdotes:

Whedon said Episode 12, titled ?Omega,? does serve as a season finale but that the birth of the 13th episode was ?very strange and they (the network) said, ?Can?t you do a clip show?? and I said, ?That seems lame.? [Laughs.] And they said, ?Can?t you just show the pilot?? And I?m like, ?Not only would it make no sense but we?ve cannibalized it for parts and it appears in almost every episode.?

As for the 13th episode, titled ?Epitaph One? and written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dr. Horrible?s Sing-Along Blog), he said the DVD deal was for 13 episodes (the drama?s pilot episode, ?Echo,? was scrapped and is considered the first episode despite never having aired), Whedon told [the studio] he could shoot a ?weird post-apocalyptic horror movie on the sets on video with a whole new cast for about half pattern and pepper it with scenes of these people (the same cast) and do it while we?re filming everything else and it won?t cost you hardly anything and it will be the strangest, most awesome thing you?ve ever had. And they were like, ?You had us at half pattern.?strangest, most awesome thing you?ve ever had. And they were like, ?You had us at half pattern.?

Screw Prison Break. They don't need that crap to do good. Move them to a better day and it'll do great on its own, a Fringe/Dollhouse would make for a good combo.

I'm pretty sure that Prison Breaks worst rating is higher than Dollhouses best.

What we need if we want these shows to survive (SCC and DH) is actually for PB to do badly in that slot. Then Fox will be convinced that its the timeslot killing the shows, not the shows themselves, and both should get renewed.

No, I don't think its the lead-in either.

But I do think the timeslot hurts it a ton.

If DVRs were not so mainstream I would agree with you, but since Fox is finally taking DVR stats seriously I think you have to look at the convoluted mess the show is. It's hard for me to argue lead in because it has been like 5 years since I had my first DVR and I have not watched live prime time TV since, so shows rise and fall based on their own merits, and I don't think my habits are all the unusual, I think many people view TV this way now. So the old metric that a killer lead in or a time slot decide the fate of a show is pretty dated thinking.

Just because someone said 'Fox looks at DVR' doesn't mean they take them seriously.

Commercials are sold based on ratings. Until that changes, Nielsens are the only thing that matters.

I don't disagee with you, I said that blaming the shows poor rating on lead-in shows and time slots is faulty, and to blame it's poor performance on the fact it is a convoluted mess.

    • Anybody that thinks flying cars were possible are idiots. Everyone would basically need a pilot licence, can you imagine how insane and dangerous that would be, people can barely handle driving on land safely right now.

    • Waymo recalls self-driving software after cars enter closed freeway work zones by Paul Hill Waymo, the self-driving car maker owned by Alphabet – the parent company of Google –, has recalled some of its fifth-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS). It did so after some of its cars drove through closed construction zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles were capable of driving through a closed freeway construction zone and continuing to drive at speed. The listing on the NHTSA website says that Waymo is currently developing a solution to fix this issue, but in the meantime, freeway driving is being restricted. Waymo will update its ADS software so that vehicles can detect when they can avoid entering construction zones. According to the Safety Recall Report, on April 20, 2026, Waymo’s Field Safety Committee began meetings reviewing an event from April 11, 2026, and five events from April 19, 2026, where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles didn’t recognize and drove past ramp closure signs into the pre-planned freeway construction zones. This took place in Phoenix, Arizona. Separately, on May 18, 2026, seven Waymo vehicles entered freeway lanes with active construction in the San Francisco Bay Area by driving between cones that were placed to show the lane was closed. On the back of both of these events, Waymo restricted freeway driving until it could address the issue. In June, Waymo’s Safety Board reviewed the issue and additional information related to ADS performances around construction zones; then, as a result, it decided to conduct a recall. This development is not good for Waymo as it adds to a growing list of technical hiccups its cars have experienced. Ultimately, it will lead to more scrutiny from lawmakers around the world who will be more cautious about letting autonomous vehicles on their roads without tighter regulation. For readers in areas where Waymo operates, does this news make you more wary about stepping into one of these vehicles?
