Hey Guyz,

I have made a little utility for monitors. When I was in search for a new LCD I wanted to see how the colors are looking and what kinda geometry it will produce and how crisp the text is. Couldn't find anything to suite my needs so I wrote it myself. I found program like that after words but then I didn't wanted to throw it out so I kept it.

This utility shows Gradients of main colours, RGB colours, Black-White-Gray colours on any monitor at full screen resolution. It has a facility to perform speed tests and text test (can be used to see if the monitor can show sharp text). It also includes geometry tests to check and test monitor's display geometry. It works fine with 4:3 aspect ratio monitors and also on 16:9, 16:10 wide screen monitors.

NOTE: SOME OF THE TEST PRODUCE VERY QUICK FLASHING SCREEN WITH CHANGING COLOURS. PEOPLE WITH "Epileptic Conditions" SHOULD NOT USE THIS.

What do you think?

Cheers :)

Amazing app! Definitely keeping it. Thank you so much, very well presented and GREAT functionality.

Whimpy internet speeds though ;p

Edit: Is it really bad that my monitor takes 2.604 seconds on that test that should take 1-1.25? I ran it at 1024*768, too..

Thanks (Y) Great app. I could hear my monitor (Dell 2007FPW) making a high pitched sound when performing the intensive box tests :p It rendered each one within the times though.

Thanks :) Yeah the box test is INTENSIVE :p but I am pretty sure it wont make a sound

Thanks for this lil utility. :)

You are welcome.

I am planning to add few more stuff to it if time permits so will see if I can release a new version.

Thanks :) Yeah the box test is INTENSIVE :p but I am pretty sure it wont make a sound

It's a humming sound when it renders it. That's what I meant :p It continues even when the rendering is done (and stops when you click to go back to the start screen - so I'm not quite sure. I wonder if other people with Dell monitors have it. It doesn't happen with anything else though, like video games etc.

Many thanks for your utility. Well designed and thought out piece.

Looking rather good with my Nvidia AGP MX2 and Samsung SyncMaster 400b here. Must also be the local power supply station !!!

I've updated my signature with your utility and this thread is linked. Hello readers!

No Virus scan was run on linked Executable in zip file via 3rd party website in the signature. Author please be

aware !

Wow - well I'd say that makes a change, does it not ?

I have got Dell 2005 FPW and no sound at all..! Is the sound inbuilt in the monitor?

I scan all the files I upload on my website with Kaspersky, AVG & ZoneAlarm. No bad signature found so far..!

That is very weird. Shouldn't really take that long. What graphics card are you using and what is monitor's response time?

Trouble is I don't have that resolution monitor to test that behaviour. I got 1680 X 1050 and it takes around 1.87 seconds on Intel's standard onboard graphics chip. With my nVidia graphics it kicks ass though.

Guess I need to review those times again and change them if necessary.

  • 1 month later...

OK it's been a while and for that I am sorry.

I tested the application on 1680X1050 screen again and it took me 1.80 second on average using an onboard graphics and using a dedicated graphics it took me 0.445 seconds. Now since the rendering of boxes is as much CPU intensive as GPU the CPU processing does make a difference so I can't really control it, unless I program the code to run using GPU.

I am testing 1900X1200 now and will post results soon.

If anyone is really concerned about the box test results but think that their monitor performance is satisfactory then I would say don't worry about it since that test was designed as a guideline only.

I wonder if other people with Dell monitors have it. It doesn't happen with anything else though, like video games etc.

No... and my monitor is 5 yrs old.

@OP: thanks for this little app. Works great :D. My intensive (read blinding) box test rendered at about .925, so I was pleased.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I am working towards version 2.0 of the utility now which will support multiple monitor setup. Once I am done with basic design and stuff I would love for some one with more than 2 monitors to test it. Just reply here and I would know who is interested.

    • Amazon Prime Day 2026 deal sees Samsung Odyssey 49" 240Hz QD-OLED monitor at lowest price by Sayan Sen Earlier today we covered a very good deal on JBL's BAR 800 Dolby Atmos soundbar system as the unit is available for just $600 as part of Amazon Prime Day 2026 deals. That's not all though as there are many more discounts to choose from. If you are looking for a high-end monitor, Samsung's 49 inch G9 QD-OLED gaming monitor is a solid deal too as it's currently just $855 (purchase link under the specs table down below). It is a super-ultrawide (32:9) 1440p curved gaming monitor and as such should offer a very immersive experience. The G93SC is a 49-inch QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) screen and that means it should have excellent contrast as well as color reproduction. Brightness is a bit lacking though so if you are looking to set it up in a relatively bright room, you may be better off with something else. Speaking of external light and brightness, the major difference on the G93SC vs the newer G93SD is that the latter comes with Samsung's "Glare Free" technology to reduce glare while the C model packs a glossy finish. The technical specifications of the Samsung G93SC are given in the table below: Specification Value Panel Type OLED Screen Shape Curved Screen Curvature 1800R Resolution DQHD (5120 × 1440) Aspect Ratio 32:9 Brightness (Typical) 250 cd/m² Brightness (Minimum) 200 cd/m² Contrast Ratio 1,000,000:1 HDR Support VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 HDR10+ HDR10+ Gaming Response Time 0.03 ms (GTG) Refresh Rate Up to 240 Hz Viewing Angle 178° Horizontal / 178° Vertical Color Support 1 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% DCI-P3 (CIE1976) Adaptive Sync FreeSync Premium Pro / G-SYNC Compatible DisplayPort 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 HDMI 1 × HDMI 2.1 Micro HDMI 1 × Micro HDMI 2.1 USB Hub 3 × USB 3.0 Speakers Built-in Speaker Output 5W × 2 Channels Operating Temperature 10°C – 40°C Operating Humidity 10–80% (Non-condensing) Stand Type Height Adjustable Stand (HAS) Height Adjustment 120.0 ± 5.0 mm Tilt -2° (±2°) to 15° (±2°) Wall Mount 100 × 100 mm (VESA) Included HDMI Cable HDMI-to-Micro HDMI Cable Included DisplayPort Cable Yes Get it at the link below: Samsung 49" Odyssey G93SC Series Curved Gaming Monitor, QD-OLED: $854.99 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US with Prime) Prime subscription can be cancelled within three business days at no cost. • Actually Windows 11 is the GUI from Windows 10 X slapped onto Windows 10. Hence the many performance issues and initial limitations of the UI, like all the restrictions on the task bar placement and features. You could not even right click on the Taskbar and bring up task manager when it first shipped. Windows 10X was truly a new OS from the ground up. Basically a lightweight OS that ran containers for various app types. Win32 got its own container. Performance was not good and OEM’s pushed back on it, but wanted a new OS to push Pc sales. Hence Windows 11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10X
