NOD32 is superior in many ways, totally recommend it over AntiVir!

uhh... you mind elaborating on that?

I have been interested in Antivir lately due to its test scores, both against viruses and rootkits junk, but I am hoping to find some solid reasons for either of the above products

What could I say? I've installed it on dozens of machines, and it's been rock solid where others have fallen over.

I've had false positives with AntiVir, and it's often narc'ed me when I'm trying to work on a pc, so I have to disable it till i'm finished.

Performance-wise, well... Nod32's always taken the cake with that, I don't think there's been a faster performing A/v out there?

Nod32's got all the protections, internet, email, macro, file scanning and more. It's very comprehensive.

Plus it's got a free trial and is cheap to buy, and there are discounts for students or multiple machines too.

In my testing. I found Nod32 to be good at stopping about 8 in 10 malwares.

However, it was less that successful at actually cleaning malware.

It's a good product but overhyped IMHO

AntiVir (not free edition) often has protection for new threats faster

than Nod32. It's also better at cleaning malware from an infected

computer. I have never had False Positive problems with Avira's

product.

Great product and not known well enough.

Av-Comparatives shows the success of Antivir.

Hello,

I believe that the IMON module is present only in NOD32 v2.x]. I believe it functions as a layered service provider (LSP) in WinSock, or more towards the "top" of the network stack, close to where applications access the network. In ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0, there is a similar feature called Web Access Protection, but I understand that it works as an NDIS filter driver, which is more towards the "bottom" of the network stack, where device drivers interface with the network stack.

I believe that Avira's AntiVir has a technology similar to these called WebGuard, but I am not sure exactly how it works.

If both companies offer trial versions, you could try installing each one, using it and seeing whcih you like best.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

    • Less powerful than a PS5 at twice the price! I wonder if they use that for marketing? Totally DoA.

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
