Why "Safari"?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the browser is named after the old Beach Boys song "Surfin' Safari"?

Probably not. ;)

My breakdown of it is.

Internet Explorer = Explorer

Netscape Navigator = Navigator

Apple Safari = Safari

All of which have some form of travel/exploration theme to them. :)

Safari makes me think about animals like Jaguars and Panthers - get it ?

True, hadn't looked at it this way...but if it was named after the song...intresting! ;)

WK, if you can find where you heard that I'd love to read it!

Beach Boys "Surfin' Safari".

"Let's go surfin' now, Everybody's learning how, Come on a safari with me..."

The Beach Boys being a popular choice before a keynote, perhaps Jobs is a fan? Plus it ties the surfing/navigiating themes of other browers.

As for OS X

Mac OS X Public Beta Cyan, Siam

Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah

Mac OS X 10.1 Puma

Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar

Mac OS X 10.3 Panther?

And OS X Server

Mac OS X Server 1.0 Mac OS Enterprise

Mac OS X Server DR2 Titan

Mac OS X Server Rhapsody

he never wrote that. its just the name of his blog. also, i highly doubt that hyatt named the browser. it was well along in the development process when he got to apple.

so i suppose that the first blog post after safari being unvelied being entitled "come on and safari with me" is just coincidential
