Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it?s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

I have already told a bunch of my friends about this. A couple were frustrated though because I couldn't give them a specific date yet. :pinch:

It is impossible for them to give a specific date as the software is still in beta stage, I am sure there will be a huge fanfare nearer the time.

One thing I doubt they have considered, with all the international time zones, what will the definition of day be? As this will have to be verified by Guinness, there should be a specific 24hr period encompassing all time zones, rather than just saying it will be midnight to midnight in a particular zone.

I'll be downloading it on "the day"... whenever that is. I think it's a fun idea, but perhaps they should have mentioned it to the public when they had an actual date.

it won't be disabled but it won't count either. you'll have to download the whole package for it to count.

hmm... does that mean if I go to the firefox site and click "download" all day, the download count will be up by the hundreds? (or thousands if I make a script to do it)

Don't think so. I think they are looking for unique IPs and if that's the case, then if you are behind a router, then downloading multiple times won't matter.

Also, one of the first things the download day site says is to play fair and not make automated scripts to download stuff.

The only limitations that I can see are lines in to the servers times the number of servers time the amount of time that they are counting for this record. And also speed of the servers with the turn around time as well as the down loaders Internet connections for the turn around time.
