It was a virus .. undetected by nod :| .. had to reinstall vista (was not able to start IE & from Firefox 3.0 RC2 any download seemed impossible - freezed) . Whatever, now I must install a good security suite cause I'm clean .

Thought Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (8.0.0.357) would be great (trial) but I wait opinions ..

Thanks .

I am curious if those who have dumped NOD32 had all of the advanced settings tweaked? I repair computers on the side and have seen some really nasty viruses and trojans out there lately that have really amazed me. In my experience, most of the recent worst stuff could blow right through NOD32 2.7, Avast 4.7 and even F-Secure Suite 2008. (Probably many others too, but these are some recent examples that come to mind.)

However, for months now I have been back with Eset Security Suite. I have the settings tweaked and run SuperAntiSpyware Pro as a fallback. I also have run Threatfire for quite a while. Eset (NOD32 3.0) has been doing so well that it is alerting and catching everything. So much so that my SuperAntiSpyware scans are clean and even Threatfire does not have to alert.

I am not a NOD32 / Eset fanboy, as I could care less what I use as long as it does not bog down my system. I also beat up my computer and "try" to infect it just to learn from the experience. I guess I should just say that I am pleasantly surprised at my recent luck in not getting slammed.

Yes advanced settings configured.

It wasn't configuration but Eset's poor response to threats. I ran the samples past: Jotti's malware scan 2.99 and Eset failed to find 4 out of 5 samples. Kaspersky missed 1. I emailed Kaspersky and next hourly update had detection. :geek:

I also found that Eset's product had seizures attempting to remove spyware (Windows XP SP3 VM), while Kaspersky detected and removed samples without a hitch.

Yes I did. I switched to Kaspersky because when I tried it, KIS found some infections ESET Smart Security missed, because I find NOD/ESET Smart Security user interface confusing and finally because ESET Smart Security firewall is poor. Check this Matuousec results where ESET firewall is among the worst firewalls.

Why pay for a product when you can get one for free without annual subscriptions. I already posted the freeware anti-spy ware that I use. For Virus protection I use Avast. It is free, it works and I have never been infected.

I'm only on trial (30 days) .. but thanks for suggestions :)
