The_Decryptor Veteran Posted June 10, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2008 I still don't think Apple ever seriously intended Safari to be widely used on non-macs. But they had to play it as so in order to get Web Developers not to ignore Safari when designing web pages.Software market share on Windows is much more competitive. Besides, unlike iTunes, there's no money to be made in the Web Browser world. Fun thing to think about. when Safari was mac only, it had more combined users than Opera on Windows, Linux and Mac. Now it runs on windows, it's got even more. dyn
And it's not just the photo's, it's also in all of the tours. So basically Apple has to redo almost everything on the MobileMe pages... Simon Veteran Posted June 12, 2008 Author Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2008 I dunno, I'm a huge fan of Safari on OS X, and can't stand Firefox (even the RC builds of Firefox 3). It's exactly the opposite on Windows. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/642284-firefox-appears-on-applecom/page/2/#findComment-589477844 Share on other sites
BajiRav
I think they are acknowledging the fact that Safari is the worst browser on Windows I like how they show off the product on Vista Basic  Anything to show Vista down, typical apple. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/642284-firefox-appears-on-applecom/page/2/#findComment-589477854 Share on other sites
Calum Veteran Posted June 12, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2008 I noticed this the other day. Although it wasn't just on this page, it was on another page of Apple.com promoting MobileMe, where you could clearly see a full browser window of Firefox on Windows Vista... so unless they've updated the page a bit or there is another page aswell? ---------------- Now playing on iTunes: Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky via FoxyTunes Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/642284-firefox-appears-on-applecom/page/2/#findComment-589477889 Share on other sites
WolfieZero
I think the odd thing is that Apple aren't showing Windows with IE rather than FF or Safari. We are all aware that Safari is very much developer based; I love it on Mac, but my work PC it's shocking how unstable it is. But again, it would make more sense to show off it in IE on PC and Safari on Mac. Use the native browsers in all. Mathachew Veteran Posted June 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 19, 2008 Or they could just have Glass disabled. It was disabled for me (on Ultimate) after I installed my graphics card drivers (for some reason) I noticed the same was done on Firefox's page. Perhaps these are all run on virtual machines? I just fail to see why they'd use such an ugly GUI over Aero. I work in Web Development, but I think everybody is the same that when developing IMHO; Aero just seems to hog a lot of resources and just slows things down. I had to set up a laptop for a demo, but it was brand new with Vista on it; rather than take the time and downgrade to XP, I just turned off all the fancy Vista UI stuff to get it running the same speed as XP running all the functional-fancy UI stuff. Steve
DWM.exe is using 48MB on my system right now and flying. How is that a resource hog? Maybe not in terms of RAM usage, but in terms of having to utilize other hardware such as your CPU/GPU also? I use Vista myself to test work on IE7 and turn all the visual effects off too, so I can allocate the machine less resources, most certainly including RAM. Aero Glass uses the GPU for hardware accleration, as it should. I'm one of those rare people, you know, that would rather have the hardware I purchased be put to good use. On XP, the GPU wasn't used properly, and all the visual effects taxed your CPU.There's a reason Snow Leopard will be moving to more hardware acceleration, as well. Others have already chimed in, but I want to as well. Aero is no resource hog and tests have proven this. Does it consume more resources? Yes. How much more? An insignificant amount. I'm in web development as well and love working on my Vista machine, but my work machine is XP and I would rather it not be. To each his own I guess, but it's obvious they neglected to use Aero for whatever reason. It's not a big deal, so meh. How am I missing the point, when I clearly mentioned utilizing alternative hardware such as both the CPU & GPU? Maybe I know more about Windows, than you do Mac OS X, if you're really trying to make me believe Snow Leopard is really delivering the oh so long awaited hardware acceleration to Aqua. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/642284-firefox-appears-on-applecom/page/2/#findComment-589497727 Share on other sites

By turning off Aero, you're actually making your CPU do more work, which will slow down software rendering (like Firefox is doing) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/642284-firefox-appears-on-applecom/page/2/#findComment-589498298 Share on other sites
