Hmm... Not sure if this was mentioned, but now you can minimize a window into the Dock icon itself, instead of a new window/space on the Dock...

post-119000-1246078627_thumb.png

The animations and physics are exactly as before, it just now goes into your Dock icon. I guess it's for those who prefer keeping a static Dock and don't want extra space and/or size being sacrificed. Otherwise, it believes exactly like any other minimized window, which means it also shows up in Expose, and you can still keyboard toggle to it.

Downloaded and installed. It already seems much better, more stable and less strange in some places.

Dock Expos? is really gorgeous:))

Minimizing in the Dock icon is really nice too, but the animation is maybe a little too quick

Snow Leopard will certainly be a very good OS

I'd appreciate if they added more than just the English language in their "Dictionnary" application. It would make it a lot refined...

And more and more language tools and correction to make it as powerful as Word's built-in language tools :-\

Also, find a way to regroup every possible update to every possible app in Software update, it'd be like what iTunes does when an iPod Touch app gets updated - you're notified right away and you're sure to be always up to date at every moment.

Edit : After messing around with it, I'd say it could be installed as a main OS without too many specific apps... I hesitated a lot with the last build, but this one's great. It couldn't be released though, but it's close...

Anyone else having trouble installing the seed? It went fine on my MacBook, but now I can't get it to work on my iMac. I've tried five times. Everytime I seemingly download the seed, but then Software Update encounters an "installation error" and states that it has no files at all...

So, they mentioned at WWDC 09 that the upgrade will be 29$. Will they also be selling a full install DVD so that I can just install Snow Leopard 10.6 from scratch? I am not a huge fan of laying down an OS and then installing an OS upgrade. Mentally, that is more cluttered in my mind versus installing 10.5, then installing the 10.5.7 combo.

I wouldn't mind paying the usual 129$ for a full install DVD of SL.

Thanks in advance.

I would be surprised if they pushed it out via Software Updates. From my understanding it will be full DVD, much like leopard

You'll always have the option of a clean install, upgrade or not. People seem to think upgrade versions require literally upgrading the os. All it means is you need a previous version installed beforehand. You can still do a clean install. Only real difference is if you had a blank drive you just bought, you couldn't install an upgrade copy on that.

However I think OSX upgrades are the same as full versions so it wouldn't matter anyways.

On topic, the new seed is quite nice. Really liking it, shame I can't use it as my main os yet but its coming along quite good. Damn thing is snappy too. I miss my plugins :(

What issues are you having that is not allowing it to be your main OS?

Okay... Just cleaned out EVERYTHING with OnyX, and it's still not working. This is so weird. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. It's the exact same sized seed (~600 MB) that I installed flawlessly on my MacBook.

Is there some kind of standalone update package I could get instead?

Just reinstall 10A380. I'd assume it'd be a conflict with something you installed on the machine.

Do you have VMWare or parallels installed? Try removing that

Here is what I read over at another forum

I fixed the problem on mine by going into the console, looking at the system log file for errors, and seeing what wasn't working. I ended up removing everything related to parallels desktop, and several other startup items that were indicating problems. Now happy to report I run 10a394 with no problem.

I've had my desktop disappear without the Finder crashing, I've had several vanishing windows with the new expose and spaces. Some programs are crash prone, others don't run at all (3rd party) and I miss my plugins :(

But I am quite impressed, there are many little things that the new Finder has corrected that always bugged me about Leopard. Folder views and window sizes for one. The new spotlight is much nicer, seems more accurate and faster.

I finally got the updated seed to install. Basically, I just did a clean erase and install of Leopard, and then kept everything vanilla as I upgraded in stages to the latest Snow Leopard build.

Fortunately, everything is back in place, thanks to Time Machine.

As your main OS have you noticed any major problems? I assume you are using it as your main one :)

Hmmm, I've never known how to use Time Machine, do a clean install and get my stuff back from Time Machine...

If you could just tell me where it is maybe... Assistant of migration or something?

As for me, using it as a main OS on my MacBook, haven't noticed any problem.

The worst that can happen is that an application is not compatible, but I'm not using any fancy, huge or old application on Mac OS X, except maybe Photoshop, Office, ...

Anything Apple made is pretty much compatible though.

I actually don't bother with this. I find it's just as easy to browse through Time Machine (not via the GUI, but via the actual TM folders) and just manually click and drag other the stuff I want. (Since I often find a lot of the backed up stuff I no longer need, saving a lot of space on my primary HDD.)

Candybar 3 seems to be the only application that won't work properly with Snow Leopard. (Actually, it's halfway there. I can still change the icons, but I can't create new collections nor browse existing ones.) Some others, like Xslimmer and OnyX, seem to work but don't have much use with Snow Leopard. But all three of these applications should be updated in due time.

Otherwise, the latest seed (10A394) is incredibly stable for me, and I have no issues at all using it as my primary OS. MobileMe, Time Machine, iTunes, iCal, iWork '09, etc. all work just fine.

I personally wouldn't touch XSlimmer given that it can butcher the ability to update Microsoft Office (due to the way the updater detects the installation).

It has been very stable, however, there is this weird bug here:

This bug occurs if you add under localisation 'British English' then deselect all other languages so that the only language in the list is British English.

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
