Serious? Sorry, as I said earlier, I uninstalled Snow Leopard to reinstall a clean install of Leopard... so I don't know what happens. I thought this icon was a photoshop or something.

Then yeah, it must be true. I'd be curious to know why they did this, because the good old X was a winning choice IMO.

Nope the icon you see here is the real thing. In recent years they've always matched the Installer icon with the packaging so for me it's basically a done deal.

I definitely have to agree with Quillz on this one. After 8+ years it doesn't really matter anymore what they put on the package. Mac OS X has become a pretty strong brand name and most people will know what it is regardless. Before Mac OS X 10.3 Panther the cat codename didn't even appear on the box.

Heya, have included some stuff I have been working on... in jpg...

It's "Mac OS X " not "Mac OSX", you've either missed a space or have really bad kerning in your large/bold text.

The pictures posted earlier in the look too amateur to be legitimate. From the strange widowed headers to awkward whitespace for the photo, and the text-heavy presentation. If it is real it's one of Apple's worst.

I don't see how this design specifically is too amateur. Previous box designs were basically a solid or gradient background with a big "X" and Apple logo on it saying "Mac OS X v10.x". In later versions the codename was added as well. It also matches Apple most (if not all) other packaging which use a lot of white. Next to that this design is already featured by the new Installer icon...

I think the design of the packaging doesn't look as good as the other ones too.

Yes the other designs were simple, an X on a background but the X was not just a plain X, it has a nice design on it. Snow Leopard is just a photo with plain text on it. Doesnt look bad but no as good as the past releases.

I think Leopard packaging design is the best one.

Can you give us a link?

For OS X Snow Leopard go to: http://www.apple.com/mac/

At the top scroll over to software and there is the show for Snow Leopard.

or

For OS X Snow Leopard go to: http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/

At the bottom there is a link back to Snow Leopards page and the boxart is noted there as well.

For OS X Leopard go to: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC094Z/A...;mco=MzgzMzE4NQ

Can you give us a link?

look here you will see the blue snowleopard server box art

Here you will see the purple snow leopard boax artnotifyme_box20090608.jpg

On this page you can see the purple Disc image why wouldn't the box match?small_footprint20090608.png

all you have to do is click links on www.apple.com and find these images

i did not mean to say that that is the real disc image, but you can clearly see that the purple and blue box arts on official apple.com are similar to previous versions,

altho im not sure if they are going to keep the purple theme since the original quicktime X icon was purple and now it is blue

I don't think the 'Snow Leopard' artwork is the real deal. I also don't think 432 is the final build. Apple still has a disclaimer that its pre-release software when downloading it (legally) Now sure that could just be because it hasn't been released yet, regardless, I'm skeptical. The artwork alone looks more like an unofficial retail copy. While they don't NEED the X on the packaging it would make more sense. Besides, it's pretty ugly. Leopard had amazing artwork and design (reflective surface) this seems like a massive step backwards and something someone threw together in 5 minutes.

Plus, the default background is still the space shot. I don't see them abandoning that anytime soon. We should create a poll on the packaging ;) I'm placing my bet with the space theme, like the current site shows.

How do you explain the new Installer icon? And they never used any of the default Aqua desktop pictures as box art.

Maybe apple is trying to get away from the OSX name? I mean this is 10.6... they'll need something new for OS 11

Doubt it... This is Mac OS X, or Mac OS 10. The next release will just be... Mac OS 11.

Like I stated earlier, "Mac OS X" has strong brand recognition, just like "Windows" or "iPod." Thus, it doesn't matter what the packaging looks like, because people will know what "Mac OS X" is.

Windows packaging, over the years, has featured everything from a simple blue background, to a PC sitting inside a home, to the Windows logo floating over clouds, to the latest Windows 7 packaging. Did people ever get confused as to what the packaging contained? No, they didn't.

Has anyone found out how to fix the font smoothing yet (to mimic strong in leopard)? It seems to be grayscale now than before, it is driving me nuts still.

The checkbox does nothing on my comp, on or off its exactly the same.

I can't even find out where that setting is stored in plist files.

The only browser so far to man up and be honest that it needs money to function is Brave Origin. Don't like the monetisation and code bloat, have a clean browser for a one off $ charge. Firefox used to be that, but now it is a code bloat browser, hiding AI.
