Mines in transit... from ontario, and i'm all the way across the country :( Let's see how fast fed ex really is...

I can't believe so many people are getting it really soon or already got it and mine still says "not shipped" but "will ship by August 28th", and what I did was a pre-order! That's scandalous!

If yours was in Ontario yesterday, I should have received my copy like today because I'm in Quebec!

(btw, good that you still support the Canadiens even if you're not here anymore!)

just got mine delivered now i have to wait untill i get home to install it and test it out. i have read the documentation several times over (even though its only a simple folding card) so pumped to try it out.

I just rebooted in 64-bit mode (thinking it would do it automatically) and things are running much quicker. I'll keep testing. Here is the command to make sure it always boots in 64-bit mode (warning: check the compatible Mac list to make sure your chipset supports 64-bit):

To select the 64-bit kernel for the current startup disk, use the following command in Terminal:

sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64

Good luck!

*Few software incompatibilities but nothing too bad yet.

Is your hard drive quite full? It may be Spotlight re-indexing, or your cache re-loading, or something.

I have a 500GB hard drive and only the space for the OS, iLife and iWork are installed on the drive. I have a Windows Home Server for my files.

That doesn't account for a 2GB difference. I'm looking at the space USED, which by that math should only be about 220MB difference.

picked up mine last night at 0004 in Dubai (9pm GMT time) and the install took just about 40 mins and seems to be a lot zippier from the get go. Hard to really tell as im on an old white macbook with 2gb of memory but definatly has a better feel. Nothing results wise to back it up but as far as being smoother, I like it.

Xslimmer is available for Snow Leopard now saving me even more space on the installed programs. Tis amazing what it strips out and then it shows you if its 64 bit or 32 bit.

Now we just to wait for x64 apps to hit us

I suspect probably not. Is there a command I can use to find out? I ran a command I found here yesterday and it stated, "EMT64" so I should be good there.

You can find out if you are running in 64-bit mode by going to System Profiler (type it into spotlight) > Software section and then look for:

64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No

Show me a screenshot of the Info panel of your root hard drive. How many bytes does it say are used?

My 10.6 volume shows 65,668,640,768 bytes used. This would translate to 61.15 "gigabytes" (really gibibytes) if I was in 10.5. In 10.6, that same number of bytes shows up at 65.68 gigabytes.

Yes I know that, but no matter how you do the math 8GB at 1000 doesn't translate to 6GB at 1024, 8gb turns into 7.8GB roughly.

Still MORE than Leopard. I don't get where they say "save 6GB" from when I lost 1.8GB.

7.45GB (8000000000/1024/1024/1024), but yeah did you install extra printer drivers?

Should it be "Yes" or "No"? I ran the command and it said it worked, but mine still says No after I restarted.

    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
    • 🤦🏻‍♂️ No, expected because 10 EOL
    • Dude, it's a .reg away from a permanent modification. If you're a power user, look it up and keep the .reg and stop being a crybaby expecting MS to include customization for everything on a generalist OS. The default is what's the best UX for the majority of the userbase, non techie people.
