Cormier6083
Hey guys, I know this has probably been asked about a bajilion times, but I like to be cautious. I'm buying a stick of RAM for my iMac (20", 2.0 GHz Aluminum) and I am unsure on who to buy from. Some people say Crucial has a better product, while OWC has better customer service. I'm unsure. Thanks for your help guys! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643160-crucial-vs-owc/ Share on other sites
Boz
Surely the difference in price will sway you towards OWC.. 8gb of ram for Crucial for my new Mac Pro was $1050.. I got the same thing from OWC for $350.. Not a single problem for almost a year now.. and the memory came packaged awesomely and was exactly the same as my stock ram in the Mac. Fusion
I've always gone with OWC because at the time I was purchasing they've been cheaper. But in the end, I really don't care where it comes from as long as they offer a good return policy if its bad RAM. I just look for the cheapest place with a good DOA policy. Cormier6083
Well, OWC is three dollars cheaper, and has a lifetime warranty, so I think I'll go with them. Thanks everyone. se7en.hu
go with the cheapest, but reputable eg. Corsair Value Select, only cause they got a lifetime warranty and its cheap ****. Could go generics but they usually don't have warranty. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643160-crucial-vs-owc/#findComment-589482760 Share on other sites

se7en.hu
lol, whats there to be confused about? :p any RAM that matches the spec will work fine, if you were looking at 'mac' RAM that kinda just gives them a reason to charge you more. and apart from that, higher quality RAM is only for overclocking, the types of chips used in certain sticks may be better quality and therefore higher clockability etc unless were talking ecc and junk, but im not going to confuse you more :p bottom-line: (generic 10$) RAM with the same specs (as ultimate mega 60$), is the same. OK, well it's only $24 dollars, so I'll be fine I suppose. Cara Veteran Posted June 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 15, 2008 Go for the cheaper. As a rule, Apple uses Samsung Memory as OEM and either of those two brands is superior to Samsung. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/643160-crucial-vs-owc/#findComment-589483831 Share on other sites

Cara Veteran Posted June 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 15, 2008 kudos to samsung for their TCCD chips back in the day though. They were bloody amazing. They still make decent memory, just not on par with Crucial for sure. I believe Crucial/MT is still used in Mac Pro's on shipping.
