Just thought I'd post a link to Gametrailers.com section on Spore. There have been some good videos about Spore during E3. There is also a presentation by Will Wright which I found quite amusing.

Only a few days until it comes out. :D

Anyone seen the latest videos of Civilization and Space (http://eu.spore.com/insider/videos.cfm) or tried any of the prototypes (http://eu.spore.com/extra/?id=10488)? I tried "ParticleMan" which was interesting and "Space" which is like a mini version of what I assume Spore in Space will be like.

I thought the Mac Users round here might like to see the System Requirments that are stated on the SPORE website are:

Spore requires at least the following:

Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher

Intel Core Duo Processor

1024 MB RAM

ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100

At least 4.7GB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for creations.

This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:

Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100

Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent

Supported Video Cards

ATI Radeon series

X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600

NVIDIA GeForce series

7300, 7600, 8600, 8800

Intel® Extreme Graphics

GMA X3100

This game will not run on the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

Install space subject to change

I think I am going to pick this game up for my MacBook Pro, looks like it could be fun :)

Anyone else worried about the DRM on this given the Mass Effect experience? I was going to pre-order this but I think I'll wait until its been tested by others. I heard they were using Securom which is what stopped my perfectly valid Hitman Blood Money disc from working. It really annys me when DRM prevents you playing a legitimately bought game... (aaah, if only EA weren't in competition with Steam...)

I never actually got it but I heard that there was a whole load of activation DRM introduced when they ported it from console to prevent piracy. It meant that you had to log in to EA's servers with the disc in the drive in order to play it and you could only install it three times. I think EA have said that they're not going to make you access the servers but they're keeping the only 3 installs. Their version of install is quite strict to, if you change any piece of hardware or format your HDD you have to reactivate it and you don't get back your activations when you uninstall it. Basically, a game that could become a classic is only going to last for three hardware changes/formats which for most of "us" isn't that long :p and to get more activations you have to call up EA and grovel.

Congrats to EA. RELOADED has already cracked the game. All hail EA's anti-piracy crap.

After news of Spore breaking the street date in Australia, we hear that Spore has already been cracked by a group called “RELOADED” despite it’s use of SecuROM, the anti-pirating software. (the same one used in BioShock) There are currently over 10,000 people downloading the game on just one public torrent tracker. All this 4 days before the game even comes out in North America.

If you want to download Spore legally, Direct2Drive is allowing pre-orders of the game.

They really ought to just give up with anti-piracy. Seems dumb to me that EA have wasted a load of money on SecuROM that will annoy legit users, while the pirates have the game earlier and without any SecuROM related problems. Meanwhile EA are selling their download of Spore for ?39.99:blink:: and it will still only come on the 5th... probably in the late hours of the night like the Creature Creator.

I would, and I think others would, happily pay ?15-?20 for the download version, especially if it was made available a day or two earlier. Instead they spend money on a battle they'll never win. Why not just burn the money instea:/ :/

FFS! My spore arrived today, but the disk is broken somehow, as my DVD drive won't read it. I've been looking forward to playing it all week, and now I'll have to wait for a while

EDIT - I followed the directions here: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/spore-g...g-problems.html

and the part which says about renaming your installshield folder worked! That or because I also gave it another good clean (I had done this twice previously though.)

So if any of you guys have problems with your drive not reading the disk, go to that link! :)

    • EA launches in-game advertising platform for brands to "connect with audiences" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The gaming giant Electronic Arts is exploring more ways to inject real-life brands into its games. Announced today as EA Advertising, the new platform is attempting to make it easier for brands to reach out for deals with the company and put their products inside titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, NHL, Skate, or The Sims. EA revealed that its EA Sports side of the company brings in "hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile" every year. Fan engagement of these titles was also touted as being "extraordinary," with 23,000 NFL seasons worth of games being played in Madden NFL daily, while EA Sports FC sees over a billion matches a day. “Players come to EA’s games and live experiences every day to play, watch, create and connect,” said David Tinson, Chief Experiences Officer at Electronic Arts. “That gives brands a meaningful opportunity to show up in ways that add value and respect the player experience, while maintaining authenticity in the worlds our teams are building. With EA Advertising, we’re helping brands become part of those moments in ways that are relevant and built for players.” Using the new program EA Advertising, brands will be able to inject their products into games in real-time via dynamic placement. EA says partners will have access to everything from stadium signage in sports games and targeted adverts to in-game content custom-made for the brands. These are described as additions designed to "enhance, not disrupt" experiences. "In these interactive gameplay environments, brands become part of the game itself, reflecting how players engage with advertising in real-world contexts," adds the company "Brands can activate across live environments, tailoring placements to meet campaign objectives, and update campaigns with ongoing optimization informed by aggregated engagement insights." Current real-world brand partnerships EA has built into its games include Visa (EA Sports FC and College Football), Lowe's (EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and College Football), Red Bull (EA SPORTS FC), Xfinity and Peacock (EA SPORTS FC), and Mountain Dew’s (College Football).

    • UK to ban under-16s from social media following a six-week trial with teenagers by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels A few months ago, Neowin reported that the UK was trialing a social media ban with 300 teenagers for six weeks, that testing has come to an end, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the country will ban under-16s from social media. Starmer said that this technology is making children unhappy and making it easier for bullies to harass and abuse them. He continued to talk about the addictive nature of social media, saying that it uses an infinite scroll designed to lock users in for hours. He said this interferes with children doing their homework, reading, playing with friends outside, and going to bed on time. Tackling the idea that nothing can be done about social media, Starmer said: The government’s action won’t stop at social media either, the PM said. It plans to take action on gaming services and livestreaming platforms. Right now, he said, strangers can contact any child unchecked. He said this wouldn’t happen in real life, and the government is going to stop it from happening online, too. The Labour government has overseen the introduction of the Online Safety Act, a big change to the internet which includes age verification on adult websites. This has led to a fair bit of backlash, but overall, the government is pushing ahead with these changes.
