Well, one thing I liked about Carbon was having all the different characters in the storyline, even if they were all a bit odd. I got the feeling it was wrapping up a storyline starting from Underground 1 which I never played.

I also really liked the canyon racing. It was tense and really made you learn control (since going off the track was obviously a problem.)

Personally, I also liked being able to skip to races if I really wanted to.

And although the police chases in Most Wanted were awe inspiring, towards the end they got to be way too hard for me. So yeah, I'm a sissy. Oh well.

I never finished MW, and I finished Carbon. I liked them both, despite their quirks. (Don't remember if I ever finished Underground 2.)

I should try GRID sometime. I heard it has problems with Vista x64 though, so I might have to buy the x360 version...plus my budget is locked down atm. Ah well.

Please, EA needs to put a stop the Need For Speed franchise already.

They are milking the name/concept for all it's worth (or not worth at all).

Flame me if you want, but after NFS: High Stakes, I just cannot find the games entertaining anymore.

It's not about graphics and sound, just overall how funny it's to play.

Has anyone else noticed how for the last 4 years Need For Speed games seam to alternate between been set in the day and at night?

Underground 2 - Night

Most Wanted - Day

Carbon - Night

Pro Street - Day

Undercover - Night?

It really is a shame EA feel the need to release a new version of the game every year.

Lol, never thought of it, but one can only guess that it'll be set on a night scene.

I never even noticed that  . I wish they just go back to NFS: High Stakes, allow the maps to have day/night racing and the ability to mirror the tracks. However, if they take the vast maps of Most Wanted and added day/night racing, I will be just as happy.

I have to completely disagree with you. NFS: Carbon was fun even though it was over the top with cheesiness. Most Wanted was fantastic but lost some steam in the last stage. Pro Street (let's pretend that never happened)...

I agree MW was the best, but I liked Undercover 1 & 2 as well.

Underground, you mean?

Yes, Most Wanted and the Underground games were the last Need for Speed games I enjoyed to some extend. Everything after those were rubbish!

Hope they go back to the roots, perhaps another 'Porsche Challenge', like Ferrari Challenge or similar, would be sweet! :p

same here guys ... MW was the best ... i almost failed exams because of that .... and before that i enjoyed Porsche quite a lot (recently finished it again just for fun) ... also High Stakes for ps2 was nice to see the colour changing or some crazy McLaren F1 at the end ... other than that hate them all (except for NFS1) ... they are stupid lack substance and well ... nothing really to talk about ....

as for customization .. who the hell needs 500 decals? ... well not me ... better give me other options of supp-ing up the car, interior and what not, make it realistic for each stage (for short, i do not want replicas to the inch/cm of real cars, make them lookalike so they burn and explode)

some say this is a movie on NFS UC

www.deathracemovie.net

no new news on NFS UC?

damn, i just hope its real fun game, unlike Carbon, PS.

coz of EA's lack of "passion" for NFS, other game's are overtaking NFS :|

look at Grid, its just like NFS PS, but better, coz its so intense, "coc.k-pit camera" :D ....

imo, last best NFS = Porsche Unleashed.

i still play it :D

wth, cant even post coc.k-pit camera (w/o ".")

Action Driving

My favourite part of the pre-alpha build we got to play was by far the new physics engine. Most of the engine was borrowed from Pro Street, but it was overhauled and tweaked to make each car handle differently, but all VERY well. If you've played any recent EA sports titles, you may be familiar with the various "skill moves" you can perform with your player. Along those same lines, the car controls in NFS Undercover act the same way. Hold the e-brake and tap the left stick slightly (on XBOX 360... not sure about other versions) and your car will do a slick looking 360. Tap the stick again, and you'll flip back around for a full 360 degree turn. Keep tapping and you can dance your car around any way you want, useful for evading cops, or just having fun. All these moves can be performed while going in reverse also. One thing to note... while performing a 180 or multiple 180's, the camera is not attached to the top of your car. It kind of "floats" around your car, letting you have a look at all angles. Try performing that same maneuver while lightly holding the steering control, and you'll pull of a nice drift. It all adds up for some very slick looking driving. However, the drift mode was taken out of this year's game, so you'll have to do that on your own. The big new mode this year is called "Highway Battle". It's basically what the name suggests. You and an AI opponent race down a highway during rush-hour like traffic. The traffic AI is also smarter this time around, and they will adapt and change lanes with their turn signals to avoid oncoming racers, or to obey police sirens.

no separate drift mode = EA going in right direction:D

doing 360 = sooo much fun:))

i think in nfs u, u2, mw,c, doin 360 turns was impossible.

PS3/X360/PC Preview - 'Need for Speed Undercover'

NFS UC: 4 new Gameplay-Videos & Interview

IGN published an interview with Bill Harrison, the Executive Producer of Need for Speed Undercover. He talks about the improvements in the game, the cinematic style and the work with Maggie Q.

He also reveils some new information, like for example there will be more than 55 licensed cars or a new multiplayer-mode called Cops N' Robbers!

Bill Harrison: In addition to the classic sprint and circuit race modes, Need for Speed Undercover features an all new exclusive multiplayer mode, Cops N' Robbers. This visceral team-based mode supports up to eight players and pits two teams of four players against each other. Robbers must pick up the money and take it to the drop-off point while the cops attempt to prevent the drop-off. Each game consists of two rounds giving the players the chance to play as the Cops and as the Robbers.

I guess this can be quite interesting. You can read the complete interview under the following links.

Additionally there are 4 new videos of NFS Undercover, which show the Highway Battle and Cop chases.

Interview with Bill Harrison @ IGN

Finally! EA listened to us and is finally using what everyone loved and making a better racing game using what we want. Free Roam is easily the best part of any racing game I've ever played and thats one of the reasons that made MW so great. It's nice to see EA is listening to fans of the NFS series and making a game we want. I will be picking this up on release date, guaranteed! :D

If the official release is October 14th, I'd imagine a demo would come out late September.

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
