The iPod has been around for years, and is one of Apple's most popular items. Because of this, the iPod is not going to be "killed" by the iPhone (IMO). Yes, the iPhone does indeed contain a "virtual iPod", however, it's not solely dedicated to music playback, which is something that the iPod is. When I was looking at both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, I found the Touch to be superior, sound-wise. This is why I chose the iPod Touch over the iPhone.

Meh, my iPod has just broken and I'm currently looking for a new phone. I've been considering getting the new iPhone so I get both.

Agreed. I cant get over how expensive it is to own a iPhone. I pay $39 a month with Sprint for Unlimited Text, Pic Mail, Data, internet, mobile to mobile and 500 anytime mins. Try that with an iPhone.

I suppose it comes down to having the latest gadgets, eh?

how in the world did you get that plan? is it a SERO plan or something?

I think in time, products like the iPhone will replace standalone MP3 players. The iPhone has shown that it is in fact possible to have an attractive device that can play music, browse the Internet, etc. I think that within a decade, the iPod line will rather transition to a brand name for the music playing technologies within the iPhone line or w/e Apple calls it by that time.

The iPhone is in fact an iPod killer (it's as if Apple shot themselves in the foot) because it is an iPod + Phone + Apps + Dock (iPhone 1 that is) but there's a noticeable monthly fee to pay for this device, so this is why the iPod touch survives easily in the market.

So both will coexist for that matter.

Oh yeah also, they have more memory in iPods than in iPhones ( as of now)

    • Since they open sourced the calculator in Win 10/11 it is much better and can do a lot, I love it.
    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. Btw, I note on askwoody that Woody Leonhard passed away March, 2025 aged 73. His site was one of my favorites back in the day. Belated yes but RIP Woody.
    • Because of the EU (a good thing) newer android devices been getting 5 years worth of security patches. Except some Motorola which found the loop hole, and offer ZERO updates. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
