Will you get Mobileme?

I just subscribed to .Mac on the 10th so I could get a decent e-mail address that works properly with Apple Mail (I tried Gmail with IMAP access but it's too quirky, issues with duplicates etc.) and I may use iDisk to keep a small backup of my documents and photos, plus I like the idea of having my Address Book and Calendar synchronized between my Mac and the service itself. Although, I'm not sure how useful it will be overall yet, as I only have one Mac.

iCal to .Mac to Home Mac to iPhone.

Mobile Me will be a lot better for this I hope. ;)

This is one of the features of MobileMe that appeals to me the most, the ability to have my data synchronized in one place, if I make a change from a computer in a library the change is reflected on my Mac, if I move data around in Mail I don't wind up with duplicates, and so forth. I have tried some different free calendar services on the internet (Google Calendar, for example) and while you can make changes from the user interface on the internet, you can't change anything in the desktop client (in this case, iCal or Microsoft Outlook). MobileMe removes this barrier, instead of one-way communication being pushed from the service to the client, you have the ability to push data from the client to the service and vice versa, making the whole process more simplified and removing a significant barrier for users.

Cara: With the MobileMe upgrade for current .Mac users, does that include the 20 GB of storage space? (.Mac includes 10 GB by default with 5 GB for iDisk and other uses and 5 GB for Mail). Are there any features of .Mac that are being removed?

Huh? MobileMe is already a vast improvment over what dot.Mac is.

Because, correct me if I'm wrong (I'll be happy to be wrong btw), all @mac.com addresses will became @me.com automatically (if you're [email protected] you can use both @mac and @me as your email). Which means that when service will debut, only crappy @me.com will be available. :sleep:

I have .Mac, but I'm dying to get my hands on MobileMe, everything looks fantastic, I really want to try their Web Apps. Their moblieme mail app is wayyy better than anything google/yahoo/hotmail has. It would be cool if they would let you import other account settings like they do in the desktop application, but I doubt that.

The whole push services are also wicked, really eager to test how quickly it really is.

I went ahead and purchased the Family MobileMe plan ($149) since I've decided I'm going to get the 3G iPhone on the 11th (currently have HTC phones).. It will actually be cheaper than the (3) Exchange 2007 hosting accounts I have right now (7.95 month x 3 = $286.20). I'll keep the main account for myself and give my son, mom and brother each their own.

The main things I'll have to give up are my syncing of notes over-the-air and not using my own domain name anymore but worth it to save $137.20 a year and get a few extra gigs of storage.

To the best of my knowledge, I don't know much more about Mobile Me than you guys do. I know iCards are going away but that is the only feature not making the cut that I know of. (Don't take that as gospel)

That is the understanding at the moment, any .Mac account will be migrated to have both @mac.com and @me.com addresses where as new subscribers will be getting @me.com addresses. Again, this is my understanding of what I've read.

The syncing of non .mac mail is what is critical for me. The fact that .mac can't sync Local "on my mac" mail folders is very disappointing.

I'm currently with .Mac (renewal is due next March I guess) so I'll have a lot of time to think about keeping the new service or not. So far it seems to be much better than .Mac, but only time and a good hands on will tell.

I'm also currently on .mac, and my renewal is in late December (I got it as a Christmas gift last year), so I have plenty of time to test out the new features to make sure I feel it's worth the price since I'd actually be paying for it myself this time :p

You could always just 'redirect' the domain and use 'masking' to hide the fact it's going to Apples Servers?

It does me little good, as I can sync my contacts and calendar in iCal/Address Book and Outlook already with my phone.

Pictures - I use Picasa.

Online storage - don't need it. Give me a large flash drive instead.

Hmm ?59 a year for push email or I can sync with my own server (Hopefully) recieve my push mail through exchange and store my data on my own server....

I use an exchange server with Sherweb for ?54 a year so I'll be sticking with that. I get tasks, calendar, mail and contacts via push on my desktop, laptop and phone WinMo phones. With .mac I would loose tasks and push support for my phones.
