Helo evribadi!

Just a quick question. I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Pro in about a month from Apple here in Sweden.

I just bought .mac from eBay and everything worked out great with activation and whatnot and my question is if you can do the same with AppleCare as they're activated the same way (?), or do I need to purchase it from a swedish reseller to avoid trouble?

Seeing as AppleCare costs $349 (I've even found them for $265 on eBay) in the US and about $700 (4200 SEK) here in Sweden, I'd love to do some big savings.

Thanks for any advice and wish me luck with my first mac :D

If the computer you buy has an AppleCare pack registered to it, you *might* be able to get it transferred to you - I'm sure I've seen something like that in the documentation for mine. Please double check first though as I might have got that wrong.

Otherwise, you want to be really careful buying it from ebay in case it has already been used..

Yes, applecare is basically an "entitlement" that has a number you activate and tie to your computers serial number

So it's just like .mac then? I should be able to buy it overseas if that's the case.

I'm buying a brand new MBP, so transferring isn't really an issue. .Mac worked out great when I bought it, and I only buy from sellers with a good rep. But if I get scammed, wouldn't PayPals protection cover me? :p

yes, inside the applecare box is a tech tools cd for diags and a paper card with a serial number printed on it. As long as it has never been activated to another computer you'll be fine. If the seller did activate it, then your screwed. Once that "entitlement" has been bound to a mac there is no reversing that process.

One thing to note, I have heard that some countries use different provisioning numbers for AppleCare which means, depending, the warranty may only be extended in the original country of purchase.

I am trying to get some more information on this but I have heard of it happening to multiple people who tried to save money on AppleCare by getting it outside of their country.

Damn, I knew it was too good to be true. Oh well, I'll just have to hope that my soon-to-be-macbook pro doesn't break after a year. $700 is just too much to pay on top of the standard $2700 (that's after my educational rebate :x) for the entry macbook pro.

Don't think the macbook pro's are going to break any time soon. I've had my powerbook G4 for almost 4 years and its been through a lot ;) (water spillage, Glass breakage, dropping off a bed) and it still preforms like a champ! Though, the latching mechanism on the laptop is broken. But you know what, those add character to a laptop ;)

I'd highly recommend buying AppleCare, while my PowerBook G4 (as mentioned in the post by Nestea_M@n) I haven't had any problems with, both my MacBook and MacBook Pro have been in for repair several times (discolouring, warped batteries, overheating and more), had I not owned AppleCare I would have been completely ripped off on repairs.

Not Cara, but yes. Any time it is under the original warranty, you can buy it.

Any and all Apple Product, new or refurbished, is eligible for AppleCare in the first year so long as the unit has not been determined to be damaged outside of warranty means by an AppleCare tech. (Example: Water Damage) :)

Yeap, you can transfer; you have to send proof of purchase to a transfer email address. I did it when my MacBook got nicked, I was never refunded for the Apple Care, so with the replacement laptop I used my old Apple Care with it.

    • Wow, imagine you dump hundreds of hours into completing things and unlocking stuff and you lose it all. Back in the day when cheats were built into games, you could at least unlock things again that way without spending hundreds of hours again. But those days are long gone for some reason as no one builds cheats into games anymore. So it's even more painful that studio that's on its 6th installment **** it up so badly.
    • Spotify finally removes the disco ball app icon in the latest update by Ivan Jenic Image: Spotify Spotify has just released an update that removes its now infamous disco ball icon. The update reverts the app icon to the familiar flat green logo after weeks of mixed reactions online. The icon arrived on May 13 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebration and was always intended to be temporary, though Spotify only confirmed that after the backlash started. The disco ball took the internet by storm, as the reception was split. A vocal group of users called it ugly and disorienting, with some iOS users noting that the 3D glowing effect made the app look like it was stuck mid-update. On the other end, the icon picked up a following of its own. Its retro, three-dimensional look immediately stood out against the flat, minimalist aesthetic that has dominated app design for years. It even started a small movement, spawning what people started calling "discomorphism," a mashup of disco and skeuomorphism. Other brands started posting disco ball versions of their own logos, probably in an effort to ride the wave of memes that flooded the internet during late May. Spotify has had a turbulent relationship with its user base lately. Besides the disco ball icon, which certainly wasn't appreciated by everyone, the company has also received backlash for its willingness to include AI-generated music on its platform. On May 17, Spotify promised the old icon would return “in a few weeks.” And now it looks like that time has finally arrived. So, whether you liked the disco ball or it made you uncomfortable, it’s now gone for good. The next time you update the Spotify app on your phone, the old, flat-design icon will return.
