iPod died looking for new mp3 player

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

so yesterday my ipod of 4 1/2 years bit the dust. Im getting the sad ipod graphic on it which means that that the hdd probably died. So Im looking around for something new

Im thinking of going the route of the Zune or Creative and Im on vista and am tired of using the ipod and itunes.

Ive got roughly 20 gb of music right now and so far other than Apple, the Zune and Creative are the only other large mp3 players out there. Are there more? Samsung? Sony?

Anyways does anyone have thoughts on the Zune 30gb or even 80gb OR the Creative Vision/Zen?

I just want to be able to play my music, fm radio would be nice as well.

I have gone from the dead ipod mini to an ipod touch 8gb, as i like the fill my ipod playlist feature and tbh its great. got it setup on wifi in the house and can just bob on to the net were ever i am and have a surf, new upgrade gives you email features as well, but i think you have to pay for it.

But you have a brain, have a look at other options and see what best suits you and your wallet.

i have the 30 gb zune and i love it. wireless sync with your computer, built in radio, enough room for me to put all my music on.

Bro, I have a Zune 80 and 2 iPods. If you want to use your player to browse the internet, I think the iTouch is your best bet.

The Zune has a radio if it matters to you. I didn't think it did till someone reminded me that at the gym they use FM to transmit. Well..so now I can run/work-out all while listening to Sportscenter.

Both of my iPods seem to give me better battery life. I think they are just more battery efficient. I have 24 gigs of music, properly tagged and everything shows up fine. That is the main reason I got a 80 gig one because of storage. Sucks though, cause I can't use it as a hard drive.

I think the Zune is a pretty well organized and friendly device. It's as close to Apple as you can get it without blatantly copying. If you are tied to Apple or iTunes then stick with the iPod, if not, try the Zune. You'll like it, plus it comes with premium headphones.

anyone have experience with the creative vision or the new zen?

There is a new Zen X-Fi Ready to be released with Wi-Fi amongst other things, so expect the SQ to be rather good.

I'd wait for that if your wanting to go creative. If not i'd recommend the Sony NWZ-A829

thanks MiG- I may wait, but then again I bet when that new Creative comes out its going to be very expensive. Ill look at the sony as well. The creative vision doesnt look half bad, either.

I went over to circuit city to look at the new Creative Zen, and I will say it takes some getting used to as far as the orientation of the buttons and screen

    • Can confirm, I've built stuff for others and no complaints using their products.
    • Yes I agree, it's annoying. You can now miss tabs unless you point low enough.
