The Day The Earth Stood Still Remake

Recommended Posts

Did anyone watch Letterman last night? Jennifer Connelly was on and looking absolutely gorgeous.

Unfortunately she has fallen prey to the same disease as many other hollywood babes, WAY TOO THIN !

Where are all the real women ?, im so sick of stick figures !

I saw the movie a couple of hours ago and I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable. Overall I'd say this movie is perfect for sci-fans and Keanu Reeves' fans alike. The CGI was pretty good and the acting was admirable yet comical.

I was really excited about this movie....the theme is about how we humans are deystroying our planet (global warming)? Everything I have read indicates this...Are they trying to get a message into your head? If so I hate movies like that.

A movie quote sums it up for me :)

"We can change! We can turn things around!"

Movie review: "The Day the Earth Stood Still"

Well, just got back from seeing this movie. Pretty much a slap in the face to the original, albeit in a much prettier package.

I've never understood how a sequel or remake could be a slap in the face of anything. It doesn't change anything about its predecessor.

By doing a remake, and then changing a major plot element perhaps? The original was using a theme of nuclear weapons, whereas the remake takes up the global warming agenda. You are correct in that it doesn't change anything, but to call it a remake wouldn't be a correct term. A revisionist version perhaps. I was looking forward to the movie until they decided to throw a nice dose of political activism in it.

Ha. What a load of crap. You do realize the original plot was "political activism" as well? Replacing the theme of atomic weapons with a theme of global crisis is still the same, regardless. Most remakes have subtle or major changes, since a new director is directing it. They like to tell a story in their own perspective. Nothing wrong with that...

Lol I can't stand stick figures, I don't understand how people like girls this skinny ( she would be hot if she gained like 7 pounds in the right places.)

I enjoyed it actually.... was a good movie, like the original.

A cool scene they should have added was Klaatu meeting all the world leaders at the UN.. or even the final scene from the original version

I guess I'll have to watch the original.

If I remember correctly, they didn't allow Klaatu to meet with the leaders of Earth. I agree though, it would've been better if they added that scene. If you ask me, they could have made Klaatu walk in on a UN meeting about the invasion or something like that.

True, but what I'm saying is a great or horrible remake doesn't change anything about the original. The original stands on its own -- it's not like anything a remake does will make you feel any differently about the original. To say it's a "slap in the face" is a bit much.

I honestly prefer newer remakes than bad quality, but classic, movies.

Still think all of these mankind-death movies are soon to be reality...

So you really prefer looks over substance?

I don't know exactly how much substance you could claim the original had, though. It had a decent idea, sure, but I wouldn't call it a great movie.

Agreed, but I am talking in general since he is doing the same.

    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
    • This is exactly why I keep saying we are not ready for human free self-driving. These little "bugs" are may seem like random one-offs. There was also the Waymo that drove between police with drawn weapons and the suspect they were pointing them at. From a software perspective it is easy to understand how those extremely rare situations may not have been programed for, but that is the point. If AI needs to be told to watch out for every possible contingency, then it can never be successful. There will always be the possibility of a first encounter that the AI needs to understand to avoid.
