I eventually want to purchase a license for my website, but $150 is a bit steep for just a forum script. I've been using Mybb, but it doesn't offer everything I want or need for my community to get noticed or become successful.

Is there a legit way to legally get an IPB license cheaper than what they are asking, or does anyone want to get rid of their IPB license for a set price?

Would IPB allow me to make payments on a license until it's paid in full before I can obtain a copy?

I'm really looking to purchase an IPB license but am really short on money and need to get my website off the ground and active. The free boards just aren't cutting it and I tried the IPB demo available through IPB and was absolutely blown away at the features and how large and active it's modding community is.

Your best bet is contacting them directly - worst case scenario, they say no.

I registered at their forum and asked, they didn't directly answer my original question but did say they offer hosting packages that come with a free IPB board.

Problem is I already have a decent host and the IPB packages don't offer the space or resources I need which is why I'm looking to purchase an owned/standard license of IPB but don't exactly have $150 at one time to blow on a license.

I'll probably contact their billing/sales department if my question is unable to be answered on their forum.:)

What does IPB have functionally over PHPBB3 that you feel you need so badly?

Community rich features, great mods, nice themes, great functionality and easy administration. I use Mybb at the moment which is currently the best free board available and even that lacks the features I want/need to get my community on it's feet.

I have seen posts where people sell used licenses of IPB.

That can be a suitable option for you.
