My old 9800 pro died and I need to replace my old AGP card but I'm not sure what to replace it with. I've searched through newegg and most of the agp cards are out of stock.

Can anyone give me some suggestions. I'm looking to play WoW, and probaly D3 on low settings when it comes out.

Someone on another board suggested http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814161052 but it just ran out of stock but i'm unsure on how good it is. i;ve read up on a few other agp cards on their site but most of them seem to have poor reviews and some over heat a lot.

the thing is I dont know how much I want to spend on a new card now. I'm only really looking to play D3, WoW and Obilivon.

Is it a big step to go from a 9800 pro to an x1650 pro?

It doesn't seem like that much according to this. Other than double the shader operations, the card actually gets beat in two areas.

Sorry to sort of hijack this thread, is the 3850 better than the Nvidia 7800 GS? I ask as I think my card is on its way out and I cannot afford to build a new rig and I can get either a new 7800 GS or the Sapphire and HIS 3850 in the UK.

According to this it seems like like a decent upgrade. Not a complete overhaul, but you should notice a decent increase.

Dr G .... I've got a VisionTek HD 2600 pro 512 agp, that I would let go for $80, Domestic shipping inc. never used. purchased 26 days ago for a friend but realized the mobo was leaking out of the caps before it arrived so he went pcie instead :(

Thanks, that was what I was looking for, I'll wait for my DLA and then order a 3850 :)

So I've been rethinking my card ideas and got my choice down to the ATI HD 2600XT and the 3850.

I know the 3850 is probally the best AGP card out there but its a little spendy for me. So i'm looking into the HD 2600XT. The card compairson site that I was looking at shows that in some areas it is weaker than the 9800 pro. is the 2600XT a good card?

Its just so hard for me to choose. The thing is my system is older so even though the 3850 may be the best I'm not sure if the card is too good for my system.

Not worth it IMO to grab a 2600XT. You're looking at about 60-70% performance increase with the 3850 compared to 2600XT.

Granted these ARE based upon 3DMark scores and I don't like using synthetic benchmarks as a performance indicator, but you get the overall idea.

Not to mention the possibility of buying a PSU to power that XT as well as opposed to a simpler card like the pro that runs without an extra connector

It's only a 3850, I'd say CPU upgrade might be necessary if he's going 3870 or higher.

@ Dr. G: Maybe it would be a good idea just to grab something so you can have video for now and then save up for a new system then.

Then whats a good card that runs as good or better than the 9800 pro? I'm just looking to play WoW, Obilvion and possiblt D3 on low settings.

Also the card has to live for more than a year

    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2 to finally get one of the most requested features by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft officially confirmed Windows 11 version 26H2 with the latest build, 26300.8697, for testing in the experimental Insider channel. The company also published more details about it mainly directed towards IT admins and system admins. Essentially version 26H2 will be delivered via an enablement package (eKB) over Windows 11 25H2. If you are wondering about some of the upcoming features in the next Windows version, one of them is certainly very interesting as Microsoft has confirmed it is finally bringing one of the most overwhelmingly requested features ever. March Rogers, the Partner Director of Design at Microsoft, recently highlighted some of the Search improvements that the company is testing, and during the interaction with users on X where he posted it, Rogers also confirmed that the company is working on disabling web search results inside Search. This is something which many users find quite annoying as Windows would often serve them links to Bing which it feels could be more helpful rather than bringing up the actual object or app the user may be searching for on their PC. Finally though the company is prioritizing local file search over the web. However the feature could not be disabled for many users as not all new features are immediately rolled out to everyone. Image via phantomofearth (X) Windows enthusiast phantomofearth who likes to dig deep into new builds uncovered the IDs you will need to enable these features. Using the following feature IDs the new Search-related features landing in Windows 11 26H2 can be used. Follow the steps below to enable the new Search experience on Windows 11 build 26300.8697: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id: and press Enter. Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to restore, repeat the steps above and replace /enable with /disable in the commands on steps 5 and 6. Delightedly and perhaps also expectedly, once you disable web search and other such bloat, the Windows 11 Search is said to get snappier as remarked by another Windows enthusiast Xeno.
