We were robbed. Arteta should of been sent off long before with 2 yellow cards after the first card he got for numerous bad tackles. Torres was fouled in the penalty box which was clear as a whistle but we got that waved away. Everton tried to dive their way to a penalty aswell. There are just dirty.

Very disappointed it must be said. I don't think Manchester United have played well at all this season with scrapping 1-0 wins apart from the 3-0 win over Chelsea.

Yeah.. after the new year.. all that matters is that you win.. no matter how.. good form or not.. big margins or not.. we learnt that the hard way last season.. Hope we can pick it up this season and kick Villa or Chelsea out of top 4 and hoping Liverpool can come back into this coz Man U should not do this again in the last half coz frankly in the first half of the season they were c**p.. seems to me the story of Arsenal's last season is being repeated by United.. winning it again in the last half of the season..

I'm a Liverpool fan it hurts to see that we let our title shot slip out of our hands. We could have easily beat Everton yesterday the first half alone we should have put in two goals. I think Benetiz has a lot of work to do and if he cant do the job then we need someone else to come in and do it.

away form has been the "worst". But considering we've played the rest of the "big 4", villa, everton, city, blackburn, bolton and pompy all away then we should get more points in the second half as all those teams are not easy to win against away. As for home form, 28 points from 30 isn't bad ;)

Last night was hardly the managers fault; if the referee had given that clear penalty, Torres finished that one on one and Benayoun hadn't of made that silly tackle everyone would be singing Rafa's praises.

It is down to the fine details and the players, last night was not the fault of the manager.

weren't you doing zonal marking at the free kick? If you were doing man-to-man someone would have had Cahill and then you would have stood a chance at defending the free kick. As for the clear penalty, no one said it should have been given on setanta, maybe if Torres didn't jump to the floor he may have stood a better chance of getting it

Yeah, we utilise a zonal marking system. A lot of people critisise it but the fact is we do not conceed that many goals from set pieces, so it is obviously a system that works well for us. Last night though I can't even explain, Tim Cahill is one of the best headers of the ball I have seen for a while, why would you leave him unmarked?

I'm sorry if you take the words of the Setanta commentators as gospel, but it was a definite penalty in my eyes. Torres never jumped to the floor, he had a goal scoring opportunity and the fella took away his leg from behind. Clear penalty.

That's my point, if you do zonal marking, you can get outnumbered in certain areas. You had Hyypia with Lescott and i think Carragher with someone else. Both touch tight (well, with their arms almost around them) and then Cahill pops up next to Reina unmarked just behind Hyypia. Should Hyypia leave Lescott and let Carragher take him leaving the other guy unmarked front post? As you say Cahill is very good at set pieces and you should have someone set to watch him at set pieces where ever he is which is where zonal marking falls down.

You are always going to conceed goals from set pieces, you can't ever stop them all, especially when a clever little git like Cahill is there. You have a choice of zonal or man marking, and my points is that for us zonal marking works best and the statistics back that up.

Have you heard of this thing called 'personal opinion'? My personal opinion is that it was not a clear penalty. Me mentioning the Setanta panel was there as a backup to show I'm not the only one thinking it wasn't a penalty, whereas it seems you're in the minority that not only think it was a penalty, but a clear one!

Another fact you've got wrong: Richard Keys has nothing to do with Setanta ;) Do you have his phone number? I'll call him and ask him though if you want his opinion.

You never stated your personal opinion. You just said "oh no one on Setanta said it was a penalty", which suggests that your personal opinion is heavily influenced by sports commentators.

Likewise, I never said Richard Keys works for Setanta did I? He is a generic gobshite presenter, but I doubt you recognise that and hence hang off his every word.

Things are very wrong at St. James Park this season..

Joe Kinnear is a worried man. After issuing a stark warning yesterday about Newcastle United's potential relegation, he has been battling to keep his injury-ravaged and seemingly despondent squad intact as predatory clubs look to tempt away players rumoured to be unhappy such as Shay Given.

Already in trouble himself with the Football Association for a touchline bust-up with Hull City manager Phil Brown during their recent FA Cup tie, Kinnear now faces a disciplinary matter of his own as two of his players have engaged in full-blown fisticuffs on the training ground today.

It is reported in British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph that want-away French midfielder Charles N'Zogbia (pictured) and Geordie striker Andy Carroll clashed after a late challenge from the Englishman in training today.

Fists flew as the players had to be dragged apart and the session abandoned, as the club's morale seems to have hit rock-bottom. Although such spats are fairly common in an emotive sport, Kinnear could do without any major schisms amongst his under-pressure playing staff as he looks to drag the club away from relegation.

i agree with marty, it should have been a penalty, but torress hitting the net on that chance would have helped too...

i'm also not a big fan of that zone. you should NEVER EVER leave top players unmarked on set peices in my opinion... especially the opposing teams best player (arguably)

I always enjoy it when the Barcode Circus rolls into town: probably the only club in the league, that have been more ridiculous and laughable than Tottenham and W.Ham

Agree that Zonal marking isn't favourable. Key players have got to be picked up, and Scolari is really seeing the negative side at Chelsea of employing a zonal system. Key players, big defenders and runners all need to be picked up, and Zonal marking really doesn't guarantee this will happen.
