Windows Live Messenger Flash ads?!

Recommended Posts

Today Windows Live Messenger popped up a Flash ad, with SOUND, for some movie (forgot its name) on both of my PCs. The ad started playing with sound without me doing anything other than signing into Messenger. :pinch: The ad was also on top of all windows on my desktop.

Is anyone getting something like this?

I am as well. It's extremely annoying. I suggest A-patch to remove ads.

OK it's happening again with a f***ing ad for Underworld.

Worse is it pops up on its own without me having to mouseover it, and it starts blaring music.

I'll see if A-Patch will fix that. I must note that for 8.5, even removing the ad wasn't enough. The Flash ad was in its own window and came up regardless of the ad space being removed by Mess Patch.

I really don't mind the video carousel and text ad nowadays, but I definitely will not tolerate Flash ads that HAVE SOUND. So far both Flash ads were advertising two films, first was Journey to the Center of the Earth, now it's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

i don't believe WLM would do something like that. You guys sure about it?

I'm pretty sure it does. If you have the ads enabled and mouse over the ad.. I think a little video pops outside of the MSN window which you can play / pause. I dunno, was a few weeks ago now and I wasn't really paying attention.

VERY annoying ad with sound (N)

THANK YOU, that's the ****ing ad

The damn thing starts playing on its own without me doing anything. Other than clicking "Sign in."

You sure you aren't hovering over it? I get those ads when I hover over the little ad at the bottom of the messenger window...

This is terrible if the ads are popping up without hovering over them or with A-Patch removing the ads :(

I have had something similar with me mousing over the ads before. I haven't had it with Windows Live Messenger 2009 yet though. I still have the advert showing and haven't had this.

This is definitely something which needs explaining or sorting by the Messenger team!

I have about 25% of right side of Hotmail screen reserved for flash ad space

I have several machines on dial-up and flash kills em dead

I installed Hosts file so had's do not take bandwidth but still a lot of wasted screen space

How can I recover this invasion of privacy

and yes Firefox is coming as soon as I can spare the bandwidth to DL

    • Wow, imagine you dump hundreds of hours into completing things and unlocking stuff and you lose it all. Back in the day when cheats were built into games, you could at least unlock things again that way without spending hundreds of hours again. But those days are long gone for some reason as no one builds cheats into games anymore. So it's even more painful that studio that's on its 6th installment **** it up so badly.
    • Spotify finally removes the disco ball app icon in the latest update by Ivan Jenic Image: Spotify Spotify has just released an update that removes its now infamous disco ball icon. The update reverts the app icon to the familiar flat green logo after weeks of mixed reactions online. The icon arrived on May 13 as part of the company's 20th anniversary celebration and was always intended to be temporary, though Spotify only confirmed that after the backlash started. The disco ball took the internet by storm, as the reception was split. A vocal group of users called it ugly and disorienting, with some iOS users noting that the 3D glowing effect made the app look like it was stuck mid-update. On the other end, the icon picked up a following of its own. Its retro, three-dimensional look immediately stood out against the flat, minimalist aesthetic that has dominated app design for years. It even started a small movement, spawning what people started calling "discomorphism," a mashup of disco and skeuomorphism. Other brands started posting disco ball versions of their own logos, probably in an effort to ride the wave of memes that flooded the internet during late May. Spotify has had a turbulent relationship with its user base lately. Besides the disco ball icon, which certainly wasn't appreciated by everyone, the company has also received backlash for its willingness to include AI-generated music on its platform. On May 17, Spotify promised the old icon would return “in a few weeks.” And now it looks like that time has finally arrived. So, whether you liked the disco ball or it made you uncomfortable, it’s now gone for good. The next time you update the Spotify app on your phone, the old, flat-design icon will return.
