Pretty big bump :p

I've just seen the second last episode of season 3.

and

OMG when Stringer got axed. Gutted, he was one of my favourite characters. It was him or Avon though...

Loving it :)

I have seen 1-5 and it has by far been the best HBO show ever made imho. Season Two is probably my favorite. The amazing thing about the show is the series in its entirety, how deep and intertwined every character story is. Season 5 (last) was very good as well. Very sad its no longer.

Oz, Sopranos and Six Feet Under were good series but The Wire is so ****ing good. Generation Kill is another great series!!

Finally finished The Wire.

Brilliant (Y)

Makes me sad though I won't see anything around written as well, with such likeable characters for a long time no doubt.

Puts into light how crap (IMO) the big series around right now like Lost/Heroes/Prison Break. Churned out, and churned out and churned out due to popularity - Not saying they are terrible shows, the scripts hook the public, but they are weakly written when put into perspective with something like The Wire IMO. It's predictable stuff, saturated with cliffhangers to keep the viewers tuning in. I think Lost will soil itself to hell and back when it tries to reach a finale, Heroes went to crap overall, and Prison Break is a good example of milking a series which started strong.

Think The Wire might edge out The Sopranos as my favourite series ever. It's between them in 1st/2nd :)

Hope to see more good shows from HBO in the future, not that keen on anything they have rolling right now.

Oz was a pretty good series they ran in the past also (also has a few actors from The Wire in it).

I am saddened by the lack of response to this topic :p

Probably as I insulted half the viewing audience who tunes into Lost/Heroes/Prison Break

In all seriousness though, they are entertaining shows, my comment was shaped by my preference for realistic, nitty gritty scripts, over more elaborate ones.

All this talk of the wire and I keep seeing adverts on FX for it, well maybe its time to see it.

Would be a wise move.

Be prepared to give it time though, it's fairly complex story writing and character building.

You'll grow to love the characters though (Y)

The Wire was awesome. I can't remember the different storylines in each season though. Which one was the one with the people trafficking? Season 2? I seem to recall that one started badly then got better. I just re-watched season one and might have to re-watch the rest now!

I've just started watching Oz.

BTW, I agree with the negative Lost/Heroes/Prison break comment - they're so damn repetitive and strung out. Lost and PB could've been finished a long time ago but they keep spinning them out longer and longer.

Thanks for reviving this! My dad lent me the entire series and I watched the whole thing in around 3 weeks. Best TV show I've ever seen. It just makes Law & Order look cheap and easy to me. You appreciate all the hard work that goes into investigations, as well as how politics can make things messy and complicated. My favorite season was the first, followed by the last as well.

Bodie, you're my boy!

I'd say the first season and the last season of The Wire were really good. For those that liked the show, check out The Shield. I think that show is great too. I'm almost through season 4 of the shield, and so far, it has a lot of similarities to The Wire, minus full on nudity and f-bombs lol.

I am going to bump this thread up again. I think The Wire needs to be seen.

All this talk of the wire and I keep seeing adverts on FX for it, well maybe its time to see it.

You must watch it. You do need patience to get into it. The first episode won't instantly have hooked, it reels you in slowly.

It's well beyond anything else on television, and it easily competes with some of the best films. It's amazingly well written, extremely well acted, by next to unknown actors, and beautifully directed. It really is a masterpiece.

I've just finished Season 4, and I almost don't want to start Season 5 as I've no idea what I can do when I have no more of The Wire to watch :(

One of the worst feelings ever :(

I went onto watch Six Feet Under after The Wire though and it's absolutely amazing as well. Same sad feeling after I finished it though

Onto Firefly now, but it's only one season...

True Blood is pretty good as well, but not on the same level as other HBO classics.

ps. It seems they've been running season 1 of the Wire on UK TV recently. No idea if they plan on doing all 5 seasons...
