+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted July 2, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted July 2, 2008 Hi, I have a MacBook (Newest one) - the one with 1GB DDR2 memory in it. I had a bit of spare cash so I went over to Apple's website in search for more memory - and there was no way in HELL I would pay ?120 for 2GB of Apple memory. So I popped over to another website and got 4GB of OCZ DDR2 667 Laptop memory, for ?52.82 I understand that there are currently 2 512MB sticks of DDR2 667 Laptop memory - so it should work fine? CPressland
The improvements of 4GB over 1GB are amazing dude, you'll love the upgrade. BTW, I'm running on the same chips as you (OCZ) only 2GB not 4GB Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/646789-will-this-ram-be-okay/#findComment-589527805 Share on other sites
Xtreme $niper
I'm actually looking to upgrade my Core Duo Macbook from 2x512mb stock memory to 2x1gb. I was looking at Corsair, Crucial, and Kingston... But I got confused as to why the different brands have such big price differences, and if there is a difference between "Apple RAM" and normal laptop RAM? thealexweb
Is Apple memory still very expensive? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/646789-will-this-ram-be-okay/#findComment-589585546 Share on other sites
Vlad
Is Apple memory still very expensive? Fantastically expensive. Buying from a 3rd party vendor, such as Crucial, is a way better idea. Xtreme $niper
Well, buying from Apple themselves is very expensive. However, by "Apple RAM" I meant this kind of thing: http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=Sh...amp;cid=RAM.188 It says Mac Memory right on the RAM itself. From what I know, there shouldn't be a difference between this and normal RAM of the same specs, aside from the Mac memory being more expensive. JMann Veteran Posted July 29, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 29, 2008 Just upgraded my Macbook from 1GB to 4GB, can't say I have noticed a massive difference but things seem a little more responsive. (Maybe I just don't do enough on it! ;)) Definitely a worth while purchase in my books. sn00pie
You guys and your complaints about 1GB, while some of us are happily puttering along with 256MB. ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/646789-will-this-ram-be-okay/#findComment-589593088 Share on other sites
Xtreme $niper
You guys and your complaints about 1GB, while some of us are happily puttering along with 256MB. ;) Hah, you get to a certain point where you don't even notice just how slow and inefficient a computer is until you experience an upgrade. I don't know what system you're running, but I'd say if you go from 256mb to 1GB, you'd be in some kind of heaven. perochan
You guys and your complaints about 1GB, while some of us are happily puttering along with 256MB. ;) wow, there are still people out there who are using 256MB :p it depends what things you do for your laptop. graphic intense needs more RAM and just surfing and document dont need that much of RAM. and wow about Apple's RAM. so expensive. im thinking upgrading my Macbook Pro from 2GB to 4GB and only about $100 for 2x2GB sticks. Kingston i think. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/646789-will-this-ram-be-okay/#findComment-589656160 Share on other sites

1759
I don't think it matters, I put some $40 Gskill RAM (2 GB) into my Mini, and it's never had a problem, although I sometimes I wish I just went the 4 GB route, as having even 3.3 GB usable would nice sometimes, as I've used up the 2 GB before.
