Will this RAM be okay?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a MacBook (Newest one) - the one with 1GB DDR2 memory in it.

I had a bit of spare cash so I went over to Apple's website in search for more memory - and there was no way in HELL I would pay ?120 for 2GB of Apple memory.

So I popped over to another website and got 4GB of OCZ DDR2 667 Laptop memory, for ?52.82

I understand that there are currently 2 512MB sticks of DDR2 667 Laptop memory - so it should work fine?

I'm actually looking to upgrade my Core Duo Macbook from 2x512mb stock memory to 2x1gb.

I was looking at Corsair, Crucial, and Kingston... But I got confused as to why the different brands have such big price differences, and if there is a difference between "Apple RAM" and normal laptop RAM?

Well, buying from Apple themselves is very expensive. However, by "Apple RAM" I meant this kind of thing:

It says Mac Memory right on the RAM itself. From what I know, there shouldn't be a difference between this and normal RAM of the same specs, aside from the Mac memory being more expensive.

You guys and your complaints about 1GB, while some of us are happily puttering along with 256MB. ;)

Hah, you get to a certain point where you don't even notice just how slow and inefficient a computer is until you experience an upgrade.

I don't know what system you're running, but I'd say if you go from 256mb to 1GB, you'd be in some kind of heaven.

wow, there are still people out there who are using 256MB :p

it depends what things you do for your laptop. graphic intense needs more RAM and just surfing and document dont need that much of RAM.

and wow about Apple's RAM. so expensive. im thinking upgrading my Macbook Pro from 2GB to 4GB and only about $100 for 2x2GB sticks. Kingston i think.

    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.
