What do you do to get to sleep?

Recommended Posts

I'm an extra-paranoid person (always have been) so I can't sleep without my AC running, for a bit of white noise. I can't sleep in utter silence, because I hear odd noises all the time and my mind is too imaginative for its own good.

I find it useful to read while I'm waiting for the AC cycle to come round again. After about 15 minutes it kicks on and I usually fall asleep instantly. :)

i just lay down and close my eyes.

have you ever tried being totally f'ing awesome for 18-19 consecutive hours? it really takes it out of you, man.

If you were really awesome, you'd be awesome while you sleep too.

I tell you, I'm so awesome, I dream about losing just so I can remember a life that isn't full of win.

... Seriously though, I generally think about what I plan to do if I get bored, which usually involves planning a program to write or something. Thinking about C# gets you to sleep in a flash.

I eat 2 granola bars and a glass of water, then turn on a TV show on my computer while I eat them, my monitor usually auto shuts off after 30 minutes and I am out by then...

The key is to make sure that it is a boring show, not one that will keep you up.

I found this method out by me trying to avoid playing with myself to get to sleep, doing that for the past few years has completed messed up my sex life now.

In order for me to get to sleep I usually watch television or use the computer until I feel drowsy, then have a drink of milk, water, or juice or grab a light snack if I am feeling a bit peckish, and then once I have finished that I set my iPod to play the "Top 25 Most Played" playlist and doze off.

I'm kinda surprised to read I'm the only one who does meditation and breathing practices before they goto bed.

I take an extremely hot bath, completely washing my entire body, including my face, then get dressed for bed.. after that..

I try to get my body into the classic Lotus position for yoga, with my hands at my side, turn on some extremely quiet non-lyrical music (usually classical), or use complete silence with my eyes closed, and breath and count to 10 very slowly (1 (four seconds pass) 2 (four seconds) .. etc) then count down to one the same way.

Seems to work pretty well, and it clears my thoughts from the day, and gets me ready for bed.

Yeah i have the same problem. I usually watch tv, then go to sleep because i have to get up early. The thing is you should go to bed when you feel tired, not because you have to, then i feel asleep much easier.

But it also takes me about 30 minutes or an hour before i get to sleep. And i can only sleep in a bed, no way i can sleep in a car or plane for some reason.

    • The Trump administration doesn't want you to use OpenAI's GPT-5.6 without its approval by David Uzondu Image via @realDonalTrump (X) As OpenAI prepares the release of its next model, GPT 5.6, the White House has instructed the company to limit the distribution of the software to a small group of government-approved partners instead of the general public, as it has done with previous releases. According to The Information, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman sent an internal memo to staff on Thursday explaining that the federal government will approve access "customer by customer" during an initial preview phase. Altman noted in the communication that this restrictive rollout is "not [their] long-term model" for software deployment, and the company plans to work toward a "more sustainable" distribution method later. CNN said that both OpenAI and the Trump administration view the capabilities of GPT 5.6 on the same level as Anthropic's Mythos and that government officials intend to "collaborate with frontier AI labs to develop shared approaches for addressing the challenges of scaling this technology." The latest restriction comes just weeks after the US Commerce Department decided to restrict Fable, a version of Mythos with extra safety "guardrails" to prevent users from exploiting software vulnerabilities. Not long after the release, though, researchers at Amazon found a way to bypass these restrictions, prompting an aggressive response from federal authorities. The government ordered Anthropic to cut off access for non-US citizens located outside the US, non-US citizens living inside the US, and incredibly, even Anthropic's own foreign-born employees. Anthropic now appears to be building a workaround to resolve this compliance block with an update to its Privacy Policy that introduces a category called "Verification Data" to handle KYC and Digital IDs. This setup could mandate digital identity checks to filter users by nationality, requiring a government-issued ID and facial biometric data. Who knows? Maybe in the future, you would have to scan your US Passport or State ID to prove your citizenship before you are allowed to chat with Fable 5 (or any other model).
    • When Windows 7 was released I created an AutoHotkey script that uses Alt+` as a keyboard shortcut to move a window across monitors. I have been using that script for over 15 years and this is the first time I have come across another app that uses the same shortcut!
