Rebdomine
Hey there.. I just got a 25mbit connection. I started a download and it only got a max of 1MB/s (like my old 10mbit). I called support for my internet and they said it could be the router that slowed me down, since my modem was fast enough. So i tried to hook up my pc directly to the modem, and then started a download and i flew away with 3MB/s (which is kinda awesome imo). Anyway.. As you might have guessed, i need a new router, but since i am completely unexperienced on that part i would have to ask if you guys could recommend one that also has wireless? (Fast wireless could be cool too since my current router gives a maximum wireless speed of 500 KB/s lol) Any suggestions are welcome! thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647179-recommend-a-great-router-please/ Share on other sites

It has been rock solid, feature rich, and not horrifically expensive. Couple that with 802.11N support and it's a true winner. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647179-recommend-a-great-router-please/#findComment-589533186 Share on other sites

Manson_AAN
Make sure your router is DD-WRT compatible :) It's a third-party developed firmware for compatible routers. It increases performance, more features, and lotsa cool advanced stuff. What is DD-WRT? Enjoy :) I have a Buffalo WHR - HP - G54. It has AOSS which is compatible with the Nintendo DS's one. It's a good router, decently priced too. But doesn't have 802.11N support Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647179-recommend-a-great-router-please/#findComment-589533362 Share on other sites

I'd recommend any of the newer Linksys models, Cisco makes great routers :) Make sure your router is DD-WRT compatible :)It's a third-party developed firmware for compatible routers. jayshaw
If you've go money to burn, Cisco 851's are great (and about $300). Otherwise, the Linksys WRT54GL is the top choice. portauthority
DD-WRT is a piece of crap. Bricked two Linksys routers of mine after a month of usage. That being said my D-Link DIR-625 router works great. Amazon was selling it for $99.99 yesterday. Haven't looked today but it's still probably that price. Roger H. Veteran Posted July 6, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 6, 2008 for best G performance i'd say the WRT54GL as everyone mentioned. If you want to jump into the N world then get a WRT160/300/310/600 or the DIR-555 depending on what you want to spend and what you need. (gigabit ports vs megabit in some cases) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647179-recommend-a-great-router-please/#findComment-589536563 Share on other sites

bytes
I am using WGR614l from last 3 months. And the experience is good. You also can think about it. You can get DD-WRT and Tomato firmware compatible to this router from www.myopenrouter.com Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647179-recommend-a-great-router-please/#findComment-589539369 Share on other sites
