A game that heavily influenced you

Recommended Posts

In this thread you name only ONE GAME that has influenced you the most, in whichever way and how it has influenced you.

My most influencial game was and still is Final Fantasy VII (7).

I first played it when I was around 8 or 9 and because of it's depth, great graphics, catchy music and fantastic storyline, I realised how good games could be. I loved that game, and still do! A bit of an emotional rollercoaster when you're that young.

So what about you guise?!

Final Fantasy 8 the reason why 90% of my games are RPG's, and the reason i have almost every other Final Fantasy release ever made, **** i still imagine how things could have turned out if this was changed or that was removed + it kicked ass graphic wise even in 2days standards.

The obligatory response;

GTA.

Of course, by being influenced by GTA I don't mean I enjoy stealing people's cars, running people over and all the other rubbish that goons like Jack Thompson want you to believe... I mean I used to own and run a GTA fan website and I still moderate at a popular GTA forum. As far as video games go, GTA is probably the one that has influenced my life the most, but in a good way.

I'd have to say Sonic The Hedgehog on the SMS/MD. If it wasn't for this game in the beginning I might not have been interested in games at all. So it really kicked everything off and introduced me to gaming from the start, it's not big and flashy by todays standards obviously, and there is very little "storyline" or variation bewteen levels but I loved it and I've never stopped gaming since (Y) :D

Super Mario World on the SNES platform was one of my most favorite games, on the PC gaming side of things I've always enjoyed Unreal Tournament, Need for Speed, and Grand Theft Auto. Mind you, I don't drive like a maniac, I don't outrun the police, and I don't blow people up with rocket launchers. :p

It has to be Final Fantasy VII for me. Everything about it was brilliant in every way and i'd have to say that was a game that heavily influenced me. (I have been recently been playing it :D)

The next game in line would be Final Fantasy VIII. That game was amazing aswell.

Counter Strike - Got me a little in the Pro gaming. I am no Pro, but I am getting there. :) (You can call me semi-pro ;) )

Oblivion - Got me in the modding scene. I'll be reading books about game development, how engines work, that kind of stuff, this summer.

Overall, games had a big impact on my life. One more year at high school, and after that I am going to computer science college/university.

They still remain to be some of my favorite series of games, ever. It's a shame Dragon Fire was so mediocre compared to the rest.

I also loved the Space Quest and Kings Quest series of games, but I took my character from QFG 1 all the way through to the end of 5, I remember having so much fun with those.

the original Xenogears by Squaresoft, I guess my forum title (unchanged since 2001, yes) says it all

despite what some call flaws about it (heavy on the storytelling, religious issues for some and a bit low in the gfx department) this game is the best RPG I have ever played, by VERY far. FFVI and VII no matter how awesome, don't even come close to it in my book.

It deserved a better sequel than the crap Namco put out

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
