Uninstalling SP1 Dell XPS M1530

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, it's nice joining the forums.

I recently purchased (and received) a Dell XPS 1530 laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. I have a Vista Ultimate disk standalone (but not SP1) and was hoping to simply update my home premium upon receiving it with my ultimate disk and key. Unfortunately the installer only allows me to do a custom install (thus wiping my files prior to installing) because my laptop came with SP1. I really don't want to lose all the Dell pre-installed content that came with the laptop; would be an enormous hassle getting it all back again.

The simple solution seemed to be to uninstall Vista SP1 on my laptop first, and then try to update my home premium to Ultimate. I cannot however find the service update on my list of "Installed updates" in the control panel and a such cannot remove it. I have updated all my sound/ finger scanner drivers as a potential conflict, but to no avail.

Any suggestions on how I can uninstall Vista SP1, or make it appear on my list of installed updates? Or perhaps a way to update Home Premium to Ultimate with a pre-SP1 version of the software? Many thanks in advance.

You are better off reinstalling from scratch anyway, all that crpa DELL installs you really don't need.

Perhaps, saving that as a last resort for now. May end up partitioning the hard drive, doing a clean install then transfering the files over first though. So the custom install (instead of the upgrade) will erase all programs?
