Windows logon/logoff loop virus

Recommended Posts

So, my sister got a virus on her desktop and the problem is when you login to Windows (the blue screen where you click on your name), as soon as you are logged in, the virus immediately logs you back out. Here is a description of the problem:

From what I've read so far, people have been recommending to use the Recovery Console, but the problem is I tried that and it prompts me to enter the administrator password. I tried nothing/blank password by just hitting enter, but that didn't work, and I tried using the typical "admin" but that did not work either. I believe the virus changed the adminsitrator password.

My main question is: Is there a way I can find out the administrator password or change it? Perhaps there's a hack I can use? Maybe something from the command prompt?

Boot up into a LiveCD or BartPE, mount your volume, whack the startup item responsible. Or maybe you can access the registry from the command prompt mode and use reg delete to remove all your autorun entries (remember to back them up just in case).
