Used Macbook Pro Good Deal?

Recommended Posts

I'm selling my MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo) Laptop, which is in an absolute great condition. It's a little over 3 Months old and has warranty untill March 24, 2009. I did not opt for the applecare on it-have had no issues thus far.

Here are the specs for your reference:

15" Matte Screen (not LED backlit)

OSX Leopard

2,16 GHZ (dual core intel)

2Gigs RAM

120 Gig Hard Drive

128 Mb VideoCard

Comes in it's original box, with manual etc. No Scratches or scuff marks, but for a mild blemish on the left speaker which is barely noticeable.

Price is $640.00

It's local so I plan to look at it before I purchase. A quick browse of Ebay makes me think it's an ok deal. I also need to find out what type of optical drive it has in it. Does anyone know when it's too late to buy AppleCare? I'm basically just not sure if I should go for this or buy a new Macbook for twice the cost in a few months when I feel like spending the extra money. Any input is appreciated!

Ask them why they are selling it. If their answer sounds sketchy I wouldn't go for it lol My mom had some problems with her Macbook that only happened a couple times randomly and then the hard drive crashed. Just make sure you know wy they are getting rid of it in case they foresee something happening and want to sell it before it happens. I hope that makes sense.

Ya I honestly didn't think it was really 3 months old because I know it's been awhile since the last refresh, and they no longer have a 2.16 available on the website. I'm thinking it's probably closer to 9 months old. There used to be a site you could check the serial number of a Mac on to see when it's manufacturer warranty was up and if AppleCare is still available for it. I don't know if that was available to the general public or just authorized reseller/repair centers. I used to work for one but I don't remember having to log in to use that feature. Anyone else know?

Edit: Guess this would be it. :)

Could be, but that laptop is at least 2 generations old, even if purchased 3 months ago. I though apple only sold current and 1 gen old items as refurbs.

Yea....depends though if he is fibbing on the date a bit since the current ones came out in Jan...they may have been selling that gen still. I don't know when they stopped selling those as refurbs.

I would ask for the serial and go from there. That would answer a few of the questions I am sure.

Wow sorry I feel dumb I thought the price was in that cut/paste above. Price is $640.00

my guess is that when you send an email to inquire about it you'll get a reply that the laptop is out of the country but they'll ship it for free etc etc etc

sounds like a scam

I have seen those before multiple times, however this one didn't seem to be worded the same and those are usually listed at an insanely good price. This one seems to be listed at a good price, but nothing to good to be true. There is no way I'd ever buy anything from craigslist without being able to personally view/handle the item myself first.

He said it was local. I agree with the poster that suggested to get the serial number as well.

According to the ad it's local. But it's a well known scam on craigslist that they will state they're local and then email stating they are out of the country for school and attempt to set up a deal to ship the item from England etc.

I see this every day on craigslist. They will email saying they recently moved to Manchester UK, blah, blah.

I like to email very "calm" replies.......

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
