markwolfe Veteran Posted July 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 8, 2008 Hi. Best Linux for games? I'd have to honestly say XP. :ninja: Other than that, any Linux that you can most easily use to install wine or Cedega (is it still called that?) on would do just fine. Ubuntu is a popular choice. But, if you are a serious gamer, you will have less work if you dual boot with XP. Best for server? I would probably go with whatever closely matches what you have experience with, or want to become accustomed to. For example, if you work with Red Hat servers, then Red Hat or a clone like CentOS or WhiteBox may best suit you. If you work with Novell, then something along the Novell/SUSE line. Neowin has an great *nix area, of which I support and often frequent, so I can vouch for the help you will get there, especially starting into Linux. There are some very technical experts, too, but as you would expect, the top 2% of experienced people are only online about 2% of the time. Google may get you quicker answers for very specific questions. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/647708-hi/#findComment-589540490 Share on other sites
PL_ Veteran Posted July 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 8, 2008 Linux for games...I'd say anything really, maybe Ubuntu or Xubuntu if you want more resources for games. If you want a seriously light Linux for running games, consider Fluxbuntu.
