Repair network connection does not fix the problem , I have to assign

Recommended Posts

I have got Satellite Toshiba Laptop A-100 that is running Windows XP Profe SP3.

The computer is connected to a D-Link router (DHCP server) that is connected to a cable modem.

Out of sudden the laptopl stopped working on the internet although the network connection is repaired more than one times.

And the same problem with wireless card.

If I assigned static ip addresses to both wired and wireless card they work,,,both of them not only one

Wired card is : Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

Wireless card is :Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

I tried to test my laptp on another router (Netgear) which is connected to another ISP same problem is going on with both wired and wireless cards.

What can cause this problem ?

Obviously it is not the ISP (I tried two different ISP), nor cables (because I tried more than one), nor router (because I tried two different routers)

You dont say what the problem is though..

I mean.. do you get any error messages or you just get the timeout error from IE?

using a DOS box, can you ping your router? and can you ping a website (any website)?

And if you leave the cards on DHCP, do they get an IP address in the range you're expecting?

What about the gateway address and the DNS addresses? Is the DHCP server serving them too?

When I use DHCP, NIC card getting default window ip address 169.x.x.x

You dont say what the problem is though..

Sorry about that, NIC card does not get ip address via DHCP

.. do you get any error messages

No.

No, it gets default window ip address 169.x.x.x

From ISP

So are either router configured to assign addresses via DHCP? That's kind of important.

Yes.

I just realized by help from others (credit goes to them) that it is a firewall issue (COMDO), although it was disabled (turn off) but that was not helpful , till I uninstalled it, and now every thing is fine.

Thanks Guys

    • I think every American should have a course in a 'dry sense of humour' at school; and perhaps 'using sarcasm in jest' oh, and also 'the use or irony in humour'.
    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
