+shift. MVC Posted July 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 10, 2008 I don't think software overclocking is necessarily a good idea, not much control over voltages etc. And on an Acer I doubt you'd be able to modify the FSB in the BIOS either. +Mystic MVC Posted July 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 10, 2008 I would not recommend it either on a laptop. Added heat in a laptop is never recommend especially in the usual minimal performance gains on an overclocked laptop. Richardarkless
What are you doing when it hits 100% CPU? just watching videos on youtube even old games are lagging Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/648323-overclocking-on-a-acer-aspire-5100/#findComment-589546502 Share on other sites
Impact
Well the games could be lagging from the graphics card being inadequate, but it sounds like it could be a driver problem if its still having that issue after a fresh install. Richardarkless
ive updated the drivers for the graphics and thats it, what else do you think could be a problem Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/648323-overclocking-on-a-acer-aspire-5100/#findComment-589546510 Share on other sites
Impact
That sounds really odd. If you could take a screenshot of your task manager processes (after hitting the "show processes from all users" button), that could help. +shift. MVC Posted July 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 10, 2008 Your laptop just simply isn't built for gaming IMO. =\ Did you have this problem with lag before? Impact
maybe it's overheating. Try downloading a program like speedfan (google it), and check your temperatures. Brandon
Well to start, you need more than 1GB of RAM for vista to be anything close to smooth Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/648323-overclocking-on-a-acer-aspire-5100/#findComment-589546557 Share on other sites

Impact
75 degrees sounds pretty warm even for a mobile processor. I would try cleaning the dust out of it. Impact
I had an AMD laptop not that long ago with a Turion 64 TL-58 and an ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 chipset and I didn't like it either because it didn't last that long on battery and was pretty slow also. Tech God
probably is piece of S**Tit says core: 75C Trust me ram is not a problem (got home basic) only hitting 486mb when nothings open really? my XP idles around 80 - 120k Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/648323-overclocking-on-a-acer-aspire-5100/#findComment-589546615 Share on other sites
Post-It Note
really? my XP idles around 80 - 120k 80 to 120 Kelvin? That's pretty cool man. But 75 degrees Celcius is really hot. My 2 year old laptop never goes over 60C. I recommend just installing XP instead of using Vista on a 2 year old machine. +shift. MVC Posted July 11, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 11, 2008 Well my laptop never gets hotter than 70. Most of the time it's around 60-65 so 75 seems like a pretty normal temperature for a mobile processor.
