I'll tell you what. This interface looks much more like centralized Media Experience than the current one, the current one looks like game console interface as with the new one looks much more ellegant , streamlined and professional, something like AppleTV. I for one just love it!

This uses the same UI ideas that MS has in media center and even on the Zune UI. The change is just in the placement of things, but the concepts are all the same.

You go up and down between the main areas and then left and right. I for one think this is great, because now MS is more or less bringing the UI's for it's different"media" ( and video games fall into that category) devices together.

Yes it is.

The old blades are being replaced, so no, it's not optional as far as where everything points.

There won't be an "on/off" switch for this and the old dashboard - As far as things stand now anyway.

ps. Added a poll to track everyone's views...

I don't own an xBox, but, graphically, the Blades where looking better. Tough, with all the features now, the blades where getting old.

What I don't like with this new system is the way it display stuff... Come on, little pictures with reflection on a dull background?

Yup, looks like crap.

I'm so ****ed off that this isn't optional.

I love the current blades.

The new "guide" is the current blade system (albeit a bit simpler) so they're still there and available at ANY time. It's effectively in-game dash.

It's not a dull background, you can still have wallpapers that look really nice. So really, all that's changed is the layout and some text buttons have been replaced with colourful icons.

It still empty even with a wall.

The menu on the top (Chanel it's called?) remind me the Zune lol.

I just hope that the 360 can handle the new dash, it seems to struggle with the blades interface :p

Is there even enough storage space for them to have 2 switchable dashboards? That is why I think it wont be optional.

This will upset those that want to keep blades but personally I'm glad they aren't supporting the old UI. I'd much rather the team concentrated on fixes, new functionality and the like rather than them having to implement every change twice because they decided to maintain two rather different interfaces. It would just blow out the implementation of changes as well as testing. It's not like they could just leave the old UI as is and not update it because inevitably those complaining it is no longer supported now will be the first to get upset when they can't make use of new functionality. It also raises issues for the team in relation to the implementation of messenging and the new "party" features if different users are in a UI not designed to take advantage of it.

I understand it sucks for those end users not liking the change, but from a management perspective I'd rather they only had the one implementation to concentrate and work on rather than dividing their attention.

I prefer the look of the PS3, but the blades were a lot more functional (crazy, I know). Hopefully this will be a bit of both, but I think it's going to end up being about the same as the PS3.

The thing is, we haven't seen most of it yet. When you look at it, it has buttons for things like system settings, but there's no indication of what the "systems settings" page might look like - it could just be the old blade for all we know, or it could be another menu that pops out of the current slidy/scrolly one we have.

Holy hell, no offense to the makers of course, but this looks like ****. Sorry, but I am in no way impressed by this, I think it looks rather ugly actually, especially the "xbox-like-mii's", wth?

And in the beginning, the "my xbox 360" menu, couldn't they come up with a better design :$ ?

Man..it looks good to me! The blade system is still there, just doesn't take up the whole screen. Hopefully (fingers crossed), when people use it they get used to it quick. If it's fast, then a lot of people will be sold. Fast and functional = ****ing awesome!

Wonder if it's the same team that did all the overhauls on Zune and Media Center?

    • Carol, Windows XP is still being used today only in a small capacity. It is still the best OS there is due to its backwards compatibility with other older software, the customization features, and friendly UI, and people often feel that upgrading to newer OSes is cost prohibitive in specialized Industries or developing countries, so the market share as of now is around 0.2%-0.3%
    • If I could, I would commemorate it the best way possible: Replacing old machines that are still running Windows XP with something more modern, stable and better.     Noone and nothing should be running Windows XP in 2026.
    • Google's new hand-wave reCAPTCHA can be bypassed with a stock photo by Ivan Jenic Image: Screenshot Google is testing a new reCAPTCHA method that asks you to wave at your camera to prove you're human. So, besides solving puzzles and reading distorted text, you can now use your computer’s camera to pass the verification test. When the hand gesture verification is triggered, your browser asks for camera access and prompts you to perform a simple gesture, like a wave or an open palm. Google says it records a short video of the movement and uses AI to extract 21 hand-knuckle coordinates to complete the verification process. The video is then immediately deleted, and Google swears it doesn't keep it. The process alone can be uncomfortable for people who wouldn’t want their biometric data, which hand scans technically qualify as, recorded. But it gets even more nuanced, as early testers discovered that the new hand-waving reCAPTCHA can be passed with a simple stock image. A user on X tested the new challenge using a stock image of a hand fed through OBS Virtual Camera, and it passed. I wanted to verify it, so I tried the same thing. It took me a few tries and a few stock images, but in the end, I was also able to pass the test. I simply had to readjust the stock image of a generic person waving inside OBS, and Google’s mechanism registered it as a legitimate hand gesture. Once again, it didn’t even have to be a video or an AI-generated hand animation. Given the simplicity of the process, the entire action can be automated in minutes. All it takes is a simple Python script to render the new reCAPTCHA method obsolete. And it doesn’t even have to be an AI bot, which is usually used for solving puzzles and other verification methods. The new reCAPTCHA method is still in its early phase, and Google will, hopefully, update its AI to at least reject still images. However, this incident, combined with users’ initial skepticism about Google’s practices regarding user data, likely won’t make too many people wave at the camera anytime soon.
