Canon Scanner Windows XP drivers

Recommended Posts

Okay...this is a little messed up ..so hopefully someone here can help me out because the Canon support tech didnt know his ass from a hole in the ground!

When I first installed Windows XP about a month ago or so, I went to Windows Update and sure enough, there was a driver for my Canon Scanner (N650U). I installed it and it was awesome... it used the built in Windows WIA to grab scans so I didn't need any extra software other than the drivers.

Awesome right? Well, I had to reformat because I screwed something up, and now Windows Update doesn't offer the drivers anymore. I went to Canon.com and downloaded those, but they don't use WIA and instead use TWAIN and I need to install their lame ScanGear to scan stuff now!

I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone know where I can get the WIA scanner drivers that were on windows update? Do you have them? The installer? Can you see it on Windows Update, even if I can't? If so, can you download and send the installer my way?

Can you tell I don't want the crap drivers I have now from Canon.com?

I'm really hoping someone can help me.

*bump* =)

yeah.. same problem here... only I have the N1220U

for a short time canon had wia drivers on their website. just a few weeks before the retail release of windows xp. those were nice. but they took them off, and i can't get these things to show up on windows update anymore. it did it one day. then i formatted, and it's gone now.

anyone?

exactly what happened to me lol I formatted and now they're gone. I was on the horn with Canon support and they have no idea that there was a WIA driver available. In fact, they claim that "there more than likely won't be one" why? "Canon would have released one by now"

*sigh*

I know there were WIA drivers for the thing. The were beta however. I had them downloaded, then when the final release of ScanGear came out I deleted that setup file and replaced it with the final. I thought maybe it had got backed up onto CD but I've looked through all my stuff with no success.

The last time that i got the ones to appear on windows update was when I installed Publisher XP. I went to windows update and office update that day, and the drivers were on windows update. I tried it again, and they didn't show up. I'm guessing it must have just been that day =(

I also tried the deletedriver program from canon. no success with that either.

I had a cr&p FB310 Canon scanner, which is pretty old. Canon doesn't seem to release a lot of XP drivers for their scanners, eh?

I tried using the scanner/digital camera wizard, but it ain't do nothing.

So I downloaded the Win98/2000 drivers from Canon and installed them. Not surprisingly, they did not work.

But after that, I ran the wizard again, and it managed to "find" the working scanning driver. I uninstalled the original one, and now it works. But it only works in Twain though.

    • Less powerful than a PS5 at twice the price! I wonder if they use that for marketing? Totally DoA.

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
