phqu88
Trying to mod a machine, What kind of switches are typically used for power on a PC? I remember trying this once with a toggle switch, which i want to do again but when the gate was on it would constantly restart. I believe its a momentary switch? voidpharoh
On modern day machines the power & reset buttons use momentary (normally open) switches. A toggle switch by itself will not work properly, as you found out. SirEvan
they are called soft switches, and its due to the new atx standards. The power supply looks for a momentary connection on one of its pins, and starts up. In older cases, the power supply didn't have the sensing capabilities so it required a toggle switch.
