First go at using Linux

XFCE is my second-favorite. There are plenty more.

Fluxbox (and Openbox) are both even lighter and more minimal than XFCE. There is IceWM. There is Enlightenment. There are plenty!

There are numerous other simplified interfaces, the one I might recommend would be Fluxbox.

Damn, I saw a couple of sreenshots from fluxbox, but thought that a desktop replacement for windows! :rolleyes: Ok, let's see it then! :p

There is a "bb4win" (blackbox for Windows) project. Openbox and fluxbox are both derived from blackbox. I don't think development on blackbox is active. Their site shows 0.70.1 as the current release, on Nov. 3rd, 2005.

You could consider it functional and stable, I suppose. But the real eyecandy (rounded corners! icons in the menu!) are in fluxbox.

Fluxbox is fast... I ran it on a Pentium 133MHz/24MB RAM once and it was still quite usable.

I really love Fluxbox but it I got tired of it not completely integrating the way I wanted and switched to XFCE. Aside from that, it's awesome. Just a thought. I prefer the whole desktop environment myself really.
